I tapered quicker than the Ashton's manual. Of course it was valium. So happy I did it. You have to have a strong will and a strong mind and bingo.... I feel amazing.

I read everything on this topic. I had to go to pain management for my pain meds once a month due to the decrease of pain meds being prescribed. I am disabled and have degenerate disc disease, degenerate joint disease, idiopathic neuropathy and more. I was on ativan for 20 years and was told if I want my meds I have to go off the ativan. Mine was equivalent to 10 mg of valium a day. It took me about 4 months to get off it. The doctor let me take my time but every month I had to have a lower dose. Yes I lost sleep and yes I was kinda a mess but today I feel great. It's been a little over a year. Never need it anymore. Just keep telling yourself you can do it. And you can! I had no choice due to my pain. It was pain pills or no life at all. Ask your doctor for something to help with sleep at night. I was given tizanadine. Best of luck. Ruby

I only got a couple hours of sleep a night and then once a week maybe I got 5 hours. Keep your mind as busy as possible. It's tough but well worth it.

I started a taper a month ago was taking 2 MG a day or 4 -0.5 pills of alprasolam. I am just using the alprasolam pills to taper,so far have cut 1-0.5. My doc wants to cut one pill a month. I took them over 5 years prescribed by my former doc who retired. I would have stayed on them as I have awful anxiety, but so far all the new doctors I've been to won't prescribe it any more,so I guess I am in a doctor forced taper. Kind of nervous about it.

I know. This is why I decided on my own to taper. I wanted to be in control and not be forced into tapering.
