How many of you had a traumatic car/bicycle accident in the past?

There seems to be a lot of posts talking about Burcon Chiropractic, who has the hypothesis that a spine misalignment caused by a prior accident (i.e. a major rear collision) is often the cause of MD.

I am curious to see if this is really the case.

For those of you who have been diagnosed with MD, have you ever had a serious bicycle or auto accident (with whiplash) in the past?  I'll define "serious" if you were hospitalized as a result of the accident and/or it took many weeks to recover (not just a few days).

Please respond yes or no.  And please especially respond if you have MD but have had an accident.

I'm curious to see what percent of people had this history! (We can also survey people who did not have meniere to see if the %'s are the same or different from the rest of the population).

Me but it wasnt a car accident. Head trauma due to an abusive relationship. My uper spine was completely out of alignment. Have been vertigo free since starting adjustments as long as they hold. Still have tinnitus but i take that over vertigo any day!

Actually if you watch Dr Burcon's videos the accident didn't have to be that traumatic. And maybe it happened so long ago you have even forgotten it.He has done the research, no other Dr has,and treated I believe some where between 500-600 patents. His statement is everyone MD patient I have seen has had some kind of trauma, not all trauma patients end up with MD.

A Upper Cervical Chiropractor can also treat you in an attempt to "get your head on straight." My accident was many many years ago and the MD did not appear for over 30 years. Started like everyone else, hearing loss, then tinnitus, vertigo. I take SERC everyday, see my DR and now work 30 hrs every week. Occasional episodes of vertigo usually when anxiety goes unchecked. I encourage everyone to see a chiropractor realizing most of us have to pay out of pocket. For me its worth it. Good luck, people who have never had vertigo have no idea what we talk about.

Thanks, Questor.  I lose some faith in his analysis if he says the accident did not have to be traumatic.  The problem is if you just asked any 40+ year old on the street, a large % would have had an accident at some point in their lives that would likely qualify in his book if they had MD.  (I would guess it would be 90-100%).  My guess is it might be confirmation bias.  100% of people with MD having an accident in their past vs 90% of the normal population would just not be so significant.   (I am guessing on the 90%, but it feels right.)  If head/neck trauma were the cause, I'd also expect a much larger % of US professional football players (who deal with head trauma all the time) to have Meniere's disease.  I hear of other problems from concussions but not Meniere's.

As for your results, I can't argue the results for you if it is getting better!  Regardless, keep doing it if it is helping (and is not too much of a cost for you)!    It might still be a misalignment issue or an issue fixable by chiropracty.

Yes, I have Meniere's Disease and I also had a mild traumatic brain injury 35 years ago with cervical neck involvement as well.

Yes I have. I had a car accident in 2003 which left me with constant neck pain even after weeks of treatment at the time. In 2013 the same happened again but even worse and the physio trying to mend my neck said I has a pre-existing condition, probably caused the first time and made worse the second time. My Menieres started in 2014 with a hateful attack, but I had suffered milder balance and dizziness problems for many years up to the first full blown attack. I am convinced that MD is neck injury related, Although I have constant neck pain and discomfort, it is much worse around the time of MD attacks or serious dizziness and balance issues. When my neck pain is not so bad, neither is my dizziness. Must be more than a coincidence

MD not from a concussion but whiplash injury. Yes I agree, not all injuries result in MD but in his research, Dr Burcon, all MD patients have had a whiplash injury.!! See a Upper cervical chiropractor and have the right ex-rays taken, you will see.
