How many people on here had PMR and or GCA for longer than 5 years

Hi, I'm new with PMR and GCA only since April 2016. My Dr told me I will have it up to 5 years, then hopefully will burn out. I read a lot on here of people who have had it 10 year and more. That does scare me some : Thanks for any info and personal feed back. Dea

Hi.. Don't be discouraged! I was diagnosed in April 2015 and I am now down to alternating days 1 and 1 1/2 mg prednisone... so a little over a year and a half. Everyone is different but I recommend you try and keep active and eat well. Be positive and remember prednisone will help you with the pain management and after you get to a low dose things will smooth out! ??

I hope you are one of the lucky ones who get rid of these autoimmunes quickly. I developed GCA seven years ago and in between one of the four flares when I was off pred. I developed PMR. That was five years ago. Had one flare of the PMR since then and because I've been on so much pred for the GCA (as much as 80mg) I don't know if the PMR is all gone. I'm not having those symptoms. I'm now down to 5mg pred daily, .8 methotrexate injected weekly and an actemra injection each week. I do have OA and spine problems since childhood that cause pains in my back and legs so it's sometimes hard to know what causes what. Jan
