How much longer is this going to go on for??

Hi all,

I had protected sex with a new partner on the weekend of the 12th December. I started to get very uncomfortable down there and by Thursday that week had developed extremely painful blisters - I knew it was Herpes. I went to the doctors on 18th of December in the morning and the doc took a swab, but said she was pretty sure it was Herpes. She said I also had thrush.

She prescribed me Acyclovir to take three times a day for 5 days.

I have honestly never been in so much pain, I only just managed to go to the toilet, and by the weekend was screaming in pain whenever I had to go. I also felt really unwell. This lasted pretty much up to Christmas Day. By then, I was able more or less to go without screaming in pain, but walking hurt and it was still uncomfortable.

This has lasted up until now, when I have lost most of the pain but have suddenly become EXTREMELY itchy down there, particularly around my butt cheeks and anus. I have developed spots on the top part of the bum, but think this is from scratching, rather than herpes blisters.

I am starting to feel like this is the beginning of another attack - is this possible when I haven't gotten over my other one?? I don't think I could take it if it is.

If it's isnt, can anyone tell me why this is happening, if it's normal and if I need to go back to the doctors??

Would really appreciate any help or advice, feeling pretty low.

Sorry you had to experience this over Christmas!

Fyi, a first outbreak often involves two crops of lesions. The first crop, then another in about a week's time. The meds only help so much, and may not do much at all if started too late, but good to finish as prescribed anyway.

What you're going through thus sounds pretty normal. It should all heal in about 3-4 weeks from onset. Recurrences are nowhere near as bad for most people, and if you have Type 1, then you will barely need to worry about that anyway!

Hope it gets better for you soon, and if it still hurts to pee, drink lots of liquids and pour water down there while you pee.

P.S. Did you receive oral sex? If so, this could be Type 1.

I did - I truly hope it is type 1, I've heard that's not nearly as bad. Do you think I should just ride it out then and another docs trip not necessary? Thank you so much for replying, really helps to talk to someone about it!

No prob! smile Does it seem to be getting somewhat better overall? Although a first outbreak can be bad and last 3-4 weeks, it should improve during that time, despite a possible second crop. For example, if you had burning urination, that should have eased up or gone by now. If you seem to be over the worse, then there's no need to see a doc again. If you feel it's the same, then it might be reassuring to get seen again.

It's not worse, just different - the pain has been replaced with intense itching, which is the worse at night. I can go to the loo now without too much problem - that bit is much much better.

I suppose I've just been unlucky and an having a particularly long first episode. It just wasn't itchy before so I was worried I might be getting another attack straight away.

Itching also tends to happen with healing, so I think you're almost done in that case. smile To sooth the itching, you can try applying diluted tea tree oil.

Ah you don't know how good it is to hear that!! Thank you - I'll give the tea tree oil a try ☺️

my outbreak started on dec the 2nd and didnt end until dec the 8th or around there.. i just took pictures of it since i wasnt able to see.. at the moment i didnt even think it was herpes i thought it was more so from using nair and getting a chemical burn .. the doctor didnt even think it was that which is fricken ridiclous because your doctor you should know ALL of this .

anyways... the first outbreak is suppose to be your worse.. i went back to having sex and everything .. the issue that you are having ive never had , getting over an outbreak and going through one..

how are things going now? did you get the results from the doctor ? did you talk to the person you had sex with to see if he has had any past with herpes ?

I haven't got the results yet - I've been away at my mum's for Christmas and only got back yesterday - in going to call them tomorrow.

It just feels like it will never end - I'm going in to my 4th week of still experiencing it now.

The guy who I think probably gave it to me has been away for three weeks abroad over Christmas - I still want to see him so I am crossing everything that he will understand and be kind when he gets back and I have to tell him! Dreading it.

I felt the same way about my boyfriend .. But he is very acceptive of it .

If you do have it life goes on , God wouldn't put you through if he didn't you couldn't get through it.

Also try a&D ointment that was like my best friend . As Long as you are lubricated down there it doesn't hurt as badly .. When you are it rubs together and it can hurt so badly mine last about a week or so I can't imagine a month long outbreak .. Valtrex is good for that you would be healed up within a day or so , hang in there tho it does get better..,

If he gave you the disease he should be the one trying to contact you just saying .. I know the feeling ,

Yes but it's quite possible he isn't aware he's carrying it. If he is then that's very different!

Thanks for the support and suggestions, I'll give the ointment a try!
