How My Revision Went

Posted , 10 users are following.

Yesterday showed up at 10am for surgery scheduled at 12 noon.    Surgery went much longer then expected  so I ended up in my room about 7:30pm.

I had my previous surgery June 20th of this year, making it 12 weeks.  I'm 48 and live in the states.

I had iliopsoas tendinosis or too much tension on ny groin tendons.   (FLEXOR muscle group).

With that problem I had severe pain and inflammation in my groin and thigh.   Any lifting of the leg in front was painful, so no hiking or walking up stairs like a reg person.  If I tried to do exercises or swim I would pay dearly later.

So today My OS came in and told me about my revision.   He wanted to replace the stem with onw thst had a shorter neck, which would pull my leg closer to my pelvis and tried that but it was way too close and would touch pelvis to hip.  So he opted for a different implant with a smaller ball to release some tension on that tendon.  They al so cut or released part of a tendon.

So today I went to PT twice but only from my chair because I was waiting on blood for a transfusion because I'm very low and so light headed I couldn't do the standing exercises with the walker.  < i="" could="" do="" those="" easily="" with="" my="" first="" surgery="">

Walking using a walker was a challenge because my leg won't come forward.  I had to pull my shorts tight around my thigh and pull my leg forward.

I'm not going to push it, I'm just going to take it slow because I know I'll have to strengthen different muscles to be able to walk again.  It's going to be a long process I think.

I have a huge booty on one side.  They cut into the same scar area so I can just imagine how well that will heal.  NOT PRETTY!   Lots of scar tissue since I have a lot of junk in my trunk. 😃

I'll be in hospital a couple more days then back home.

I didn't have to pay since it was a revision within 90 days.  I was worried about that.   My first surgery is costing me about 4500.00 that's with insurance.  My part is 10%.

Just sitting in the recliner dreading the bathroom stall.

I have to say I am loving their food.  So much good stuff!!  Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and spinach for luch, tuna melt, veggie soup and a bomb Cobb salad. Oh and cheesecake.  They say during healing you burn 1500- 2000 calories!  So they feed us yummy.

Staff is wonderful here a Good Samaritan too.

      Awe Thanks Ginger💓💕💞

I am feeling better just very very swollen.

Last night I was iceing my leg and my husband brought me a Jamba Juice (ice slushy)  oh my gosh, my groin started cramping and spasming and went into my thigh and it just started jerking like crazy.  I I rang the nurse and said I need heat NOW!  She says "oh no, can't give you heat"  I said "You give me heat now please I know what I need."  She brought me two heated blankets and we placed them on my thigh and the spasms stopped immediately.

That was crazy!  LoL 😲  just goes to show we know what we need.  They were going to give me shots!  So now I don't eat ice chips or ice water.  Just lukewarm water or hot tea and coffee.

I haven't let them medicate me too much.  I onlytake a third of a percocet.   I don't like the carry over into the next day from Vicodin.

Hi how do uput the hearts on ur  notes.?

Oh my those spasms must have been just terrible .

Ibet ur swollen .mine by the time I went home went all the way to my toes. Ice is good. Ihad ice pad that had to circulate cold water over the thigh..

Well, thst was quick.  Cant walk now, the swelling is causing major pain in my knee and it is time to just rest .  Dang it anyway.

Oh and my site is posterior.  Cut through the exact spot from last time.  It as sealed with a "plastic surgery" seal.  That's what my surgeon calls it.  No stitches are visible. There is a big sheet of clear tape, plastic wrap looking stuff- its waterproof..  I'll take a shower tomorrow here at the hospital.

Not sure if I'm going home tomorrow or what😕

So this is something I may need to do since my problem after my last THR sounds so similar. I have not received my second opinion appointment date yet.  YET.  It has been weeks since I requested it.

My spirit is with you as you heal and I pray your outcome is exactly as you hoped for!

    Take care!

I hope so too Dawn and thank you for the blessings and prayers.

It sure hurts like hell.  Seems worse then the first but oh well I will know more within the next couple months.  It is so different once we'very had these surgeries we are well aware of just how long things take to get to a point where they feel better.  It sure isn't what they tell us in the beginning!  Not even close!

I hope you feel better and I will say a prayer for you too DD💚💛💜

Thank you Jilliboss123.  Keep us informed.  Of late, a great deal of the pain that causes me to involuntariily scream has abated.  Still there at times, but longer stretches of periods of much less pain is giving me renewed hope that life as I knew it may not be totally over.  Nearly a year out from surgery and it has, like you said, hurt like hell.  I cannot even imagine going into it again, but will if it will truly help.  You are right, they do not reveal to us even close to the truth in the before surgery.

Take care and keep us posted on here!  I appreciate it!

Dawn are you able to go for a massage?  I am serious when I say that helped me soOo much.  We have places thst are $20 for an hour, full body massage.

I would go once a week and that is when I felt the best.  Just wondering😉 (((hugs)))

I love massage and am sold on it's benefits and have lived my life with it except when I could not afford it.  I cannot wait to go again!  However, my budget is such that there is no money for it, not even $20.  Nearly 10 years ago I adopted my grandbabies and am raising them on my limited disability income and the older they become, was 5 yrs., 20 months and 14 months old are now 14, 11 and 10, the more expensive they become.  Plus they are all special needs children due to the neglect and abuse they endured in my daughters home before I could rescue them.

My day will come however and I will love it!

Hugs back and yes, when I was receiving 1 and 1/2 hour full body massages every two weeks, I was on top of my world!  It is wonderful!  My day will come....

Hi, some days since I looked in but now seeing your post I realise that it is very similar to my situation. I'm now waiting for an MRI courtesy of the NHS so don't yet now when it will be. It's 3 weeks since I saw the surgeon who thinks I might have iliopsoas tendinosis. Wish they had told me about all the possible complications - I've had 18 months of pain - or should I call it sheer hell.

Good luck to everyone - let's hope for a pain-free day soon. XX

      Hi Jayive

      They dont tell you about all the complications do they? I know we sign a consent formn......death etc  LOL but all the minor {to them} things they dont mention { like my fracture afterwards}

Hopefully we'll all have pain free days soon

      Love

Sheer Hell is the perfect description!
    • Posted

Yep, it is sheer hell.  I had my revision on Weds the 24th so today's the following Monday.  All my bruising is coming to the surface so I can see why my blood pressure was dropping.  So much bruising in My inner thigh from cutting the tendon.

      Hi Ginger,

The surgeon originally was only going to place a smaller neck to relieve the tension on the tendon .  That didn't work out in the surgery room so they made the ball smaller and released the tendon.  I think released does not mean cut all the way through, I think it's cut at an angle or something I'll ask again at my appt on Thurs.

I am in the US.  In San Jose CA.

San Jose is nice.  Sweetest weather with cool mornings and evenings warm sunny days.  So  many good places to eat and hike.  An hour or  so  from San Francisco.   Work in any area you could imagine.  Bad thing is it is expensive.

Since I haven't been to the beach I forgot it is very close also.   30-45 min over the mountain.

I hope to get to go see the ocean before it gets too cold this year.
