I have heard of people who are in the -6.0 D range before surgery and only having a cataract in one eye having their cataract surgery target the same high myopia of -6.0 to avoid a high differential between the eyes. It strikes me a solution to a short term problem that compromises your vision for the rest of your life. Short of removing that IOL you would have to do the second eye the same when it gets a cataract. This may be a situation where it makes sense to remove a good natural lens and put in an IOL.
.
The peak vision of a minus target can be calculated by dividing 1 meter by the minus diopter value. The peak vision of a -3.0 would be at 1/3 meter or about 13". At -6.0 D it would be 1/6 of a meter or about 6.5".
