Following this convo, I just had my first one 3 weeks ago and I'm wondering the same thing, although I have read that certain things can trigger outbreaks.

yes i have read this too.. there are things that can trigger herpes such as fatigue, an illness etc. i had also read that an average number of outbreaks is about 4 per year but it depends on the person each time

When I first got it (I was having outbreaks almost nonstop.  I was also living in a horrible environment so my stress levels were off the chart.  Now, at 61, I hardly ever have an ob.  I can feel it coming in 3 days before and immediately start taking Valtrex.  Many times, that keeps the on from even happening.  The key is to lower your stress levels and now there are drugs to prevent outbreaks or at least lower the number of them you have.  Can you feel yours coming on?

The first few months to a year are the "worst" for those with recurrences. How bad/frequent depends on the individual. Often times, recurrences are mild, so even if you have them they're not that bad, and typically nothing like the first outbreak. Some can be so mild that it's unclear whether they're actually recurrences! When in doubt, however, assume that it is to err on the side of caution.

I am currently having my second outbrake the first one was the very worst. So far the second is a mild comparrsion but its only a month later. I have already been crying a bitt this time, it isnt that it is as painful, but I am having the same muscel pain, but mostly uncomfortable. I am wondering for my self with it being such a short distance apart that i should ask my dr about preventave mesures. I am a Diabetic

For sure, as you know, diabetes can complicate so many things so I would ask your doctor if taking drug every day for herpes, how will it affect your diabetes. 😎
