Well, how often you excercise depends on a lot of diferent factors.

I would speak with your doctor and see what he/she tells you based on your overall health.

If you are able to excercise on a daily basis, that should improve your quality of life.  Obviously, some excercise is better than none.

If possible, you should do some type of aeorbic exercies, along with some lifting weights, and also some stretching on a daily basis.

Chris - as we so often hear in this forum, follow your surgeon's and PT's recommendations and then listen to your body. It will tell you what is too much. There are no hard and fast rules on this from what I have heard. In fact, there is an astonishing lack of follow-up after the surgery ranging from 6 and 12 weeks to 1 year and no real direction except through guidance of PT'S or other health professionals that patients have consulted privately.

My suggestion is to find a good PT or athletic therapist who understands this surgery or a centre offering hydrotherapy and get their advice.

    Good luck.

    dear chris,

warm welcome to this wonderful forum of hippies ...

Exercises will be a part of your life with hew hip(s), is what I understand - Did you get PT while you were in the hospital? exercises are recommended to be done 3x a day (the standing ones) - but then there is another approach that just walking is the best way of strengthening the muscles ... what have you been told by your surgeon at follow up appointment?

let us know how you are getting on, okay ?

    big warm hug

      Hey Renee,

Nice to see you still around !!!

Just really agreeing with Linda and you that exercising, moving, flexing and relaxing, etc,  is a natural part of life. Hippies need this for ever!

I had no PT in Exeter, from the hositpa post op, but belong to a gym class - and 3 months post op I resumed half hourweekly  sessions with my personal trainer there.

the occ therapist at 6 weeks meeting said swim lots, any stroke, and that when your body is ready your good walking can even turn into jogging, gently. this is something at 18 months my gym PT is keen for me to do now!

Walking is bestest, and my phone has step counter which has been bril

      Mic

      xx
