Hi hope you're all doing ok. I'm day 6 now and just wondered how often people had a bm at this stage. I'm having 5-8 per day and they consist of both runny and soft formed stool. Am I bming too much ?

I've always been a once a day in the morning and then maybe again if needed and that hasn't changed since the surgery. I take my s/s- laxative at night to keep in rythm. I couldn't imagine going 5-8 times a day! The pain and discomfort you must be going though.. I feel for you.

I don't think the surgery would have effected the amount of times you go I'd say it was your diet/medication/supplements.

I would start by looking at how much fibre you are consuming, the internet tells me for a woman you should be consuming 25g. That should be enough for you not to be constipated and then the laxatives are stimulates which of course make you go. I make sure I eat enough fibre (38g) for a male and drink around 3 litres of water and then just take my s/s- lax at night so I go in the morn. Your s/s should be a fibre supplement make sure it's not a lax as well perhaps.

I would speak to the hospital about this, did you get a phone number from them before you left ?

I did Mary. Funnily enough I didn't go as many times yesterday so I'm hoping things may be slowing down. Of course that also means my stools are becoming more solid which is more painful x

Keep taking your stool softener till you have been back to the hospital.
