how things have changed

i was watching the liver birds last night episode in  1970

when they were checking there house keeping

fish and chips for 4 with pickle onions 18/- which for any one pre decimal

was less than a £1  a pound being 20/- and containg 12pennies to a shilling and 240 to a £1-00 then.

.an average  fish and chips for 4 now would be about £20 thats a 2000% increase .

of course the pound in your pocket hasnt become worth less since decimalization has it .?100pennies to the poundeek

The Wilson government was a disaster.

    Decimalisation was a disaster

the Coalition was a . . . Just under a hundred days to run. Of course they could pull a rabbit out of the hat and make it the greatest success of all time. But then we were all born yesterday . . . Well perhaps not.

Sic transit gloria mundi or as Enoch Powell said "All political lives . . . end in failure."

Or to put it another way,

      'Ex nihilo, nihil fit'

      or

      'nihil producit spicæ'

Thanks Tribune Achemedes. Huh! Mm thought he was Greek. No, they are too busy not paying their taxes to be on the forum.

Inwill stick to English. Pity Enoch hadn't added " . . . and the sooner the better."

Tribunus plebis - Tribune of the people, mm that appeals to me.

'Ex nihilo, nihil fit', et  'Ex nihilo, nihil fit'

'From nothing, nothing comes' & 'Empty heads produce nothing'.

Maybe true of our politicians, eh?

As for Enoch, what a great loss..........

Oh I don't know. Those empty spaces between the ears are filled to overflowing with hubris. A terrible complaint, poor little midges.

But have you ever known the midges not to win, that is the question?

True no sign of nemesis for midgies , but not so for most, all? Politicians .

Yes, gone are the days when 'cheap as chips' really meant something, unlike today!

And that just covers the petrol.

Mmm How do you get a mortgage anyway? The banks are skint except when executive salaries and bonuses come to be paid. That includes banks bought by the taxpayers, you and me.

plus they dont included money from house sales in there econemey .like we do . funny how Germany road out the 80s depression and now are riding out this depression as well why dont we follow the way Germany run there economy instead of following the USA  .
