How to apply the hemorrhoid cream

Hi,

I have always had a bit of difficulty applying the haemorrhoid creams myself. I know the procedure, but the position to do it is what beats me. So I just wanted to ask - how do you guys do it? Applying it externally is fine, but inserting it inside has been tricky in my experience.

I tried squatting down and then trying to insert it, but that position seems to not easily be able to relax those muscles. I then tried lying on my side, but then that results in me getting the cream everywhere else in the process of finding the spot!. Also, is using the applicator better or just the finger? and do you normally lubricate the applicator tip before inserting it?

Any suggestions, any methods that work for you would be greatly appreciated!
