Hi Everyone

I am an acute gout sufferer and facing my 4th gout attack with on year gap. I was not controlling my diet and taking medications properly. I had my serum uric acid value of 7.9 mg/dl. I did not take proper medication to bring it down to range as I thought It will slowly reduce with time but now I am having another gout attack on my right foot toe. Doctor has advised me to take febuxostat (uristat 40 mg tablets) daily. I want to ask how long should I take this medicine? it seems like I have to take it for the rest of my life which I don't want to as it upsets my stomach. Please tell me from your experience how long this treatment will go? why doctors say we have to take medication for rest of our lives?
