How to clean operated eyes when close up vision is gone after long distance IOL

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi!

having second eye done tomo march 12 one week after 1 st eye was done. both will be for far distance toric monofocal.

problem having to clean discharge..excess gooey guck discharge from eyelashes, and overflow . sort of like touching the outer gook on eyelash and it then pulls out the attached gook debris with it..

wont be able to see close enough now to do this..

think magnifying makeup mirror would be the best plan? thanks!👀

Getting pus in the eye after cataract surgery is not an expected issue, and you were correct to ask your doctor for advice. I would ask again about it tomorrow when you go in for your second eye. Perhaps there is some change needed in the eye drop antibiotic being used.

As far as with dealing with it while being far sighted I don't have any good suggestions other than the lighted magnifying make up mirror which has already been suggested. It reminds me of the issues in putting a contact in the second eye when the contacts correct for distance and give you no close up vision. It seems the only real solution for that is practice. Do you have another person that could help you until you get a full recovery from the surgery?

This is why I chose to have mono vision, one eye for distance one eye for close up. I tried contacts first and decided it was the best solution for me. Of course everyone is different, but if you are willing to delay your surgery to try this you may be pleasantly surprised.

      Best wishes.

but how was your vision with glasses? im.legally blind uncorrected. I think that's y he wanted both for distance. dont or didnt you lose a little distance or acuity because you have one far one close? how bad was your myopia and did you have astigmatism

      what oils did u have

.tram...I'm just going to keep tomo surgery appt with a second distant toric mono..

The reason I read why I changed mind few weeks ago was that some ppl have depth perception..like stairs or sudewalk.curb.

also distance gets a tiny bit blurry and idiom is functional not grear at either distance. glad it worked out for you!

I wear glasses for driving for depth perception to be extra cautious, although for short trips i don't always wear glasses. I have no problem with stairs. If I wear progressive glasses I do have a problem with stairs.

It's a trade off, neither distance or close up is perfect, but I enjoy freedom from glasses most of the time, which was important to me

It was a hard decision, I changed my mind a number of times before surgery. I think knowing what the trade offs were, going into surgery really helped.

      Very best wishes!!

went to dr monday 2 days ago and dr said it was excessive tearing (mucus fluid tears...today it was like 90% bettee..much much much less the past 2 days and much much less redness..

Yes I can have my daughter look but it's kinda hard for her to dab at the excess..

      It's gotten much less tho.

Tomo early pm I have 2nd eye..

hate this coronavirus around since there was a second positive in the same hospital in the ER..

ughh hate losing near vision!! . nothing like your natural lens..until they arent that good anymore

I know your surgery is very soon however it is your vision and your choice. I had extra questions that i wanted answers to so delayed my surgery. So until lens is implanted you can change your mind.

I am not sure how much you hate losing near vision versus night time halos. With one successful monofocal lens set for distance that should mitigate them anyways. Nowadays people mix and match IOLs. You could consider an EDOF or trifocal to keep your near vision. The hospitals have all the options on hand so likely wouldn't delay your surgery.

Anyways - not trying to push you in any direction but also don't want you to feel like you are on a conveyor belt going forward with no choice.

wish you nothing but the best.

Oh good to know it is all now behind you. Looking forward to hearing how your vision is once the dilation wears off. Rest up and take care!
