How to come back after a blip?

I’ve been doing so well recently I’m on day 20 of citalopram and I have had a fairly easy ride the past 2 weeks. Have felt so much better but obviously have had the odd side affect. I haven’t had any heightened anxiety up until yesterday.
I was due to have a cup removed and replaced but unfortunately it failed as the doctor couldn’t find the strings. As you can imagine this was pretty painful and stressful. Normally I’d deal with it well but now I have been diagnosed with anxiety it has somehow triggered the fight or flight mode in me again.
So last night I felt really off before bed, tight and achey shoulders and neck. I went to bed early but woke 2 hours later in a state of heightened anxiety again. I have had heart palpitations, racing thoughts, clammy hands, general restlessness and insomnia now most of the night. I have barely slept and have woke at 4am after not falling back to sleep until around 2am and I just can’t get back to sleep. No point now though as I have to get up and showed for work.
I’m now feeling down that I’m going to struggle today at work both physically and mentally. Is this normal to have these blips in the first few weeks of taking citalopram? If so how do I get back to my relaxed state again? It’s one of those things where once the mind starts freaking out over this kind of stuff, it’s difficult to get back out of it?
Had anyone got any helpful tips or advice?

In my experience, even on medication i still have blips as you put it. I've had citalopram im the past but presently on Amitriptyline. One thing to remember is that may be a routine procedure to some people but its really quite traumatic when you are suffering anxiety and perfectly normal to have heightened responses after that experience. Heck i'm sure even those without anxiety would have found that uncomfortable.
I would imagine today you'll find will be a write off as your body recovers from the fight or flight response and you'll be tired too. Try not to be too hard on yourself. A couple of days 'you' time to practice deep breathing, mindfullness if you've not tried it might help, cut out caffeine for a couple of days too and hopefully some better rest tonight should help get you back on track x

I have just finished work. It was very physically and mentally challenging. Anxiety sucks. I work in a Pre school so it’s a very demanding job. However I ploughed on through and got the job done even whilst I felt like I wanted to just curl up and wake up tomorrow. The best thing for me is to just keep going, even if I’m in pain or mentally drained. I’ve just been taking deep breaths throughout the day and trying to just get in with it. Thankfully it’s a day off tomorrow and a visit with my doctor to check how I’m getting on with the medication.
It’s been great up until yesterday, but yes like you said it is a pretty horrible experience to have to go through regardless to whether I’m suffering with an anxiety disorder at the moment.
Thank you for your kind words and advice. Tomorrow I’m going to look after me.
