How to deal with outbreaks/prevent them

So after a visual examination yesterday my doc thinks I got herpes, the swabs are on their way to the lab so I should get confirmation soon. The outbreak is dying down now after 1 week of pain in the anal region. I'm still in the phase of disbelief and anger, angry at myself for being so stupid. I wish I never had sex tbh. But well it is done now. Anyways I am in the process of joining the military as Pioneer. And that kind of lifestyle is everything that supposedly triggers Herpes; fatigue, high stress, lowered immune strength, bad nourishment at times, etc etc. So I guess preventing outbreaks will be very hard, so my question is how can I fight and lessen the outbreaks? Because if I get the same kind of pain again like I did last week I wouldn't be able to do my job properly at all. I think I rather have penile herpes then rectal. It hurt to sit, to go number 2, to walk, to lie down and the overall flu like symptoms didnt help either. Any service members here care to share their experiences? Anyone else dealing with frequent outbreaks who has easy remedies? Hopefully I am one of the people who only gets it once a year but I won't know that for a while rolleyes

I was diagnosed in December and have only has one outbreak. I haven't found that drinking or eating badly affect me at all, although a lot of people do say diet causes outbreaks. I eat very well though and take multivitamins, llysine and echinacea every day. If you do have problems with recurring obs suppressive meds can really help, and also reduce the risk of passing the virus on. Keep as hydrated as possible and coconut oil and tea tree oil are your friends. I've heard raw honey is good for the sores too.

First of all, recurrences are not normally nearly as bad and are usually quite mild. Secondly, as Bethan says, you can take antiviral meds either daily to prevent recurrences and reduce transmission (suppressive therapy, usually only for Type 2), or only as and when you feel an outbreak coming on (episodic therapy, which does not reduce transmission). If you do have herpes and it turns out to be Type 1, then you should rarely get outbreaks again. Type 2 is the more frequently recurring (and infectious) one.

Alright ty for clearing some things up. Yeah I was rather stunned at the drs office after they said my potential diagnosis, they pretty much gave me some meds and send me off. Thinking back i would like to have asked some more questions.

Alright good to hear that later outbreaks won't be as bad. I am not too concerned about transmissions, I don't plan of having sex ever again tbh. So I guess I now have to keep some meds in the cupboard after all heh? damn I can't believe how stupid i was.

Well, here's hoping you only have Type 1, if that, as there's barely anything to worry about. If Type 2, everyone's different, but most experience only mild recurrences, with transmission being the bigger issue. If that's also not an issue, then you probably don't need a big stockpile of meds. See how you test and what your recurrences are like first, if applicable.

I use this stuff called Mediviral that I got on Amazon to prevent outbreaks. It works pretty well for me. It's supposed to be a natural alternative.
