How to find a good ED doctor?

Posted , 9 users are following.

I've been struggling with ED for a while now (2yrs +). I'm fit and healthy (arguably the  best shape of my life), eat pretty well, don't smoke, don't drink often and do a lot of walking. Following all the advice given about ED, I have visited several doctors to try and sort it out as it is seriously interfering with my enjoyment of life!! I'm seeking advice or recommendations for my next step:

The advice I have gotten so far has been worse than useless, the doctors do not seem to be very supportive (I really wish healthcare professionals were as caring as portrayed on TV or at least the ones I have encountered anyway!) and seem to be divided into two - those that think it's all in my head and those that tell me glibly that it won't get any better and nothing can be done (I'm only in my mid 30s ffs and it's not like they did any proper digging before reaching that conclusion)!

I personally do not think it's all in my head since a) I have already been to counselling for  a while and b) as I have informed the doctors I'm not sure about having morning erections as I can't recall having had any for a while now. Also the cialis I've tried hasn't helped. Admittedly now there is a large amount of anxiety as it has been so long but aside from blood tests for testosterone (normal) and manually checking my penis, there has been no further investigation.

So, I am at a loss of what to do. It is ruining my life and I just want to enjoy what everyone else takes for granted! Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Sorry to hear of your distressful situation, I'm sure some one on here can offer you advise, just a thought, when I saw my urologist he asked if I had trouble in the sex department and that if I did have he could prescribe Viagra.

I hope you get sorted soon

    kind regards

    Howard.

I think I can suggest a remedy that worked for me, if you can manage it. About a year ago I had been taking the BPH meds so long that ED was really beginning to bother me. I had a testosterone test and it was within normal range, so why the problem? I asked my Uro for a prescription for Testosterone and he said, "well it can't hurt you". And he prescribed testosterone cypionate 200mg/ml in one ml vials. I injected this into my thighs every two weeks using a very thin needle. After the second injection I began to notice an increase in sexual interest. Keep in mind that my testosterone was "normal" before I started the series.   My sexual interest and ability contimue to prosper ujntil I suspended the injections due to scheduling a HOlep surgery to, hopefully, fix the whole problem since the BPH meds will no longer be used.

My advice? Find a URO who will prescribe this for you. And stay away from the phoney-baloney non-prescription stuff which won't help you. I took a lot of that stuff without any success at all. The testoterone cypionate works for me and If necessary, I'll be back on it again.

Maybe a higher level of testosterone than normal is necessary to gin up the works for some of us? I think so. Good luck!

    Hi

About a couple of years ago I had ED. My testosterone was low and my endo put me on Testim gel (testosterone).  My PSA level rose dramatically. This is the advanced marker for prostate cancer.  My endo immediately stopped my Testim and the PSA level came back to normal levels.  Although I did not have prostate cancer the raised levels will mask any genuine prostate cancer which anyone may have.  So I dont think it is a good idea to go down this route.  Additionally adding testosterone can cause a negative feedback in the endocrine system and stop your body from making its own T.

It was discovered after more tests that my Prolactin hormone was very high and that was causing my ED problem.  I was put on Cabergoline and things have well and truly reversed.  My ED no longer exsists and and I am as randy as any 20 year old.  I need sex at least three times per week and sometimes masterbate as well. My wife loves this and encourages me in every way.  I recommend you get yourself checked for low prolactin, its very common and your sex life will go nowhere if you have this.  No even any of the viagra type meds will work properly if your prolactin is high. By the way I am 65 years old.

    Good luck.

hello mate, you'll be surprised how many guys actually struggle with it.. movember anyone? It is a complex problem with masturbation habits and your partnership "health" being major factors. Make sure you understand the coolidge effect if you are in a long-term relationship, also the concepts of abstaining, foreplay, role play and other things to spice it up. I have been using an arginine and pine bark extract super-antioxidant combo for about a year and the missus and I are very happy with it. Vigarin and amitamin m forte are both good. There is also Prelox, but its more expensive. Also agree with colin47 - better not mess with your natural T. I also took ZMA for a while, when I was gymming a lot (5x5s). That had a definitive impact on me, because I dreamt about sex and woke up with a hard on pretty much every night for the first 2 weeks. No kidding!

I recommend you consult with a naturopathic physician, as these alternative medical professionals run more in-depth tests and treat you as a whole person, asking many questions to determine exactly how your body is out of sync.

Another thing you need to take into consideration is the order of your sexual programs, which can be randomly lost (then difficult to regain) due to performance anxiety. For instance, when you are driving a car, you need to move through the gears in the right order with the right timing, otherwise you will crash or stall. Google "why sex is like driving a car" to read more.

    Hi,

Thanks to everyone for their advice smile

I'm going to give some of these things ago and see if it'll improve. I'm particularly interested in the hormone solutions as in the last few months my interest in other things has diminished too..

If I get any results I'll feedback so anyone else finding this thread will have more information.

    Thanks!
