How to find cause of ache in perineum/bum

Always difficult based on a description but here goes.

For about a week I have had a sort of ache mainly around my perineum area. Sometimes it feels like its in my testicles , other times in bottom. I also feel an ache in my bum cheeks and sometimes down the back of my legs. I am 62.

I had my prostate checked about 9 months ago it was normal. I have no blood in my wee or poo and dont feel ill but the ache is a bit like having a mild headache in your butt ! I have had the odd pile and I had an anal fissure as a child.

I spoke to the gp on the phone and he suggested taking ibubrofen for 3 or 4 days. I have taken 2 twice a day for 3 days and maybe ( I think ) its got a little less achy

So, I did the dreaded googling and nothing exactly fits the symptoms except maybe Prostatitis, Levator ani syndrome, Pelvic floor dysfunction ,Pudendal nerve entrapment or am I thinking too much !!

So is it worth going to a physio first, would they be able to diagnose anything

Feel free to offer other ideas or comments..

Hi Paul......do you have any lumps in your groin? I'm thinking maybe you have a hernia? Ask your GP to check it out.

Do you cycle? If so give it up for a while that can cause this sort of pain via the pudendal nerve..

Do you indulge in any sort of fitness regime...running etc? Strenuous gardening ie digging? That mention of pain down the back of your legs could be a hamstring injury.

Sorry I'm not being much help but there are so many things that it could be.

Would your GP send you for a CT scan,or could you afford a CT or MRI yourself?
