How to find the shortest waiting time for prostate GL Laser treatment in England

Posted , 3 users are following.

Having now discussed with my urologist that the Green Light Laser Treatment is the best option for me, and then told that at his hospital the waiting time is several months; meanwhile I have to keep the catheter in.

Is there any way to find out which English hospital has the shortest waiting time for this treatment please?

Obviuosly you havent been diagnosed with Cancer. treatment should be with in  the two weeks. Its a few hours treatment and home the same day. its a question if you can find some one with a short list as apposed to a hospital

You are corect Peter; well, in a way. I have been diagnosed with cancer - but that was bladder cancer, and nearly 7 years ago. That bit of me is now fairly well managed. I now have a different problem - high urine retention (1.2L) which cause hypertension and compromised my remaining kidney. So I now need a TURP; not critical, but waiting several months with a catheter is something I'd like to avoid if I can. Hence my question. My GP is too busy to sort it out and bounced the query back to me. But I don't even know where to start (I had thought that only GPs could find out that sort of info). Google doesn't seem to come up with anything.

NHS rules say that from decision to operate to procedure they have to do it in 18 weeks.

They have many ways round this. I, despite being pushy  waited 54 weeks for my heart valve replacement.

There is a site with the info but I cannot find it at the moment.

Perhaps our moderator can help you.

Thanks Derek; that's a start - tho' maybe the 18 weeks was what the urologist had in mind. I'd just like to reduce that time, and someone suggested that I could shop around to any English hospital. The problem is to find out what each hospital's waiting time is.

I finally found a site that helps finding hospital waiting times: NHS Choices:

    http://www.nhs.uk/Pages/Homepage.aspx

Not as useful as I'd like, but it did enable me to find one hospital offering the surgery I wanted (GL Laser) and a contact.

But I suspect there are many more than this one, but at the moment I haven't either found them or (in the one other) there was no email address.

The one I did find and had an email address (Newcastle) responded very quickly. Alas, their waiting time was longer than my local one, so not a useful alternative.

I had mine done in 2005 at the Freeman in Newcastle. I was about their 36th patient. I thought that they had gone over to HoLep Laser

My reading of their site indicated that they do all the variations. However, for me, with their 25 week waiting time, the issue is moot. Pity, 'cos they seem to be particularly expert.
