How to get enough Oestrogen with Lowest Dose Progesterone?

Hi everyone!
I am struggling on Evorel Conti Patches as am allergic to the glue & they make me depressed and very angry at times! I know I need the Oestrogen but low Progesterone. I would like to have Estradot patch with Crinone or Cyclogest but she won't prescribe it. I was offered Utrogestan which I refuse to take as they cause Vertigo & I suffered with that for years, so am not going back there!! I am wondering about Femoston. What do you ladies think? xx

Hi Daisylady,
I'm sorry I can't be any help with the Femoston, as I've never tried it. I'm curious why your doctor won't give you Crinone, as it has been shown in studies to protect the uterus from over stimulation. Utrogestan is a pretty high dose of progesterone, which may have caused your vertigo, as this route of administration goes directly into the blood stream. So a 4% Crinone seems like a very reasonable request. I'm assuming you're in England, but here in the US, you can also get compounded vaginal progesterone in any strength necessary. An Endocrinologist I saw prescribed a 5 mg Progesterone capsule in olive oil twice daily. She said that physicians often OVER prescribe progesterone because of the fear of uterine cancers.

thank you for your reply. Yes I am in UK and I think that may be the issue! Apparently Crinone is not licensed for Menopause only for other uses such as fertility issues. Same with Cyclogest! I have researched endlessly as my GP always says I know more about HRT than she does! I will look into the capsule, that sounds a good option.
Thanks so much x

HI there, I have been reading comments on this forum and find them supportive. I have had to hunt for a Dr, that recognizes quality of life as a choice we can make for ourselves. What I have found on this forum is that we have unique symptoms that need to be addressed. You know it's like a moving target because it takes months to adjust to a change prescription yet all along we are changing while waiting for it to take effect. I would have to call it aging. Some symptoms may not be due to hrt but other endocrine issues like our thyroid. As much as I enjoy this forum I do not think that I will ever feel the same as I did before menopause. I as most of you try to figure out the hrt combination that works best for you, I still have symptoms while still on hrt but probably not as severe as they would be. What a mystery our bodies can be. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jean
thank you for your comments. I am sure like you that we are all juggling trying to get the right doses of hormones to feel relatively normal! I know the Progesterone however is not good for me, like a lot of other ladies. I find I am suffering with a real nasty PMT symptom at a certain stage of the month, which I never had before, complete with the sore breasts!
I enjoy the forum too, but like you everything is relative to the individual and it can only ever be a guide As for thyroid issues, yes it's a common problem as we age, something else to worry about lol!

Very interesting point Jean. I'm always jealous of those women who say, "HRT gave me my life back" as though everything is perfect. After hunting for a very long time, I wonder how much of all my hormone systems have changed through the years? Possibly that's why estrogen doesn't feel quite right to my system.
