How to get rid of constant throat mucus after meals? I'm suffering :(

Edited , 8 users are following.

Every time I eat, and it doesn't even matter what it is, a piece of fruit or a slice of bread, I am forever clearing my throat for hours afterward. I even get thick mucus in my chest that I have to cough up almost as soon as I am finished eating, along with the parade of constant burping that follows. I do not smoke and have never smoked but I feel like a two pack a day smoker with this mucus I get. I also wake up with it too and have to gag it up. I'm only 26 years old.

I am trying to work on my diet and lose weight. I am eating a plant based diet and ordered The Acid Watcher Diet book but heard there are not many vegan recipes in it. This kind of worries me as I do not want to eat animal products but if it comes down to it I would do anything to be healed of GERD/LPR.

I have been skipping lunch at work because I answer the phone constantly and cannot get hoarse or clear my throat often. My voice gets so croaky from the mucus my boss has asked me if I am sick. I don't want to drive my co-workers crazy with my constant throat clearing. The phlegm is so deep I literally have to almost make animal noises to bring it up. This is really starting to bother me and I feel so disgusting and worried about the future. I can't keep skipping meals like this and it is affecting my work performance.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What helps? What foods can I bring to work that won't cause mucus in my throat?

Throat clearing will get better once the acid reflux is under control. The acid watchers diet book - you can pick and choose your own ingredients as long as they are alkaline. avoiding highly acidic food has helped me alot but I had to wait almost 9 months before seeing any results. take care and persevere. x

some PPI antacid would help speak to your doctor about your issues

This is the world of LPR and if anyone has a remedy that will actually work, lets hear it!

Forget PPI's as I and numerous others have tried in vein (and much negative talk on this med recently).

If you are in the UK look into Gaviscon Advance. Not available in the US and has and added ingredient that is reported to help over the standard Gaviscon.

    Good Luck

so sorry you are in such distress. i am suffering in the same way although i am retired and don't have to worry about the work setting. i am only 5 weeks in with LPR

so this is all new to me too.

the foods that don't cause me constant throat clearing are raw cucumbers, celery, and snap pea pods. also watermelon and canteloupe are good.

i try to eat only foods with a 6.0 PH or higher.

everything else i eat causes some mild, medium or strong episodes of throat clearing that i have ranging from a half hour to several hours. i have an especially hard time in the evenings after dinner up to bed time .

don't know why this time of day is the worst for me.

does anyone have an idea of how to ease a throat clearing episode while you are in it? so very frustrating to say the least. thank you.
