How to get through cole turkey from my doctor from tramadol?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have been on tramadol for 4 years due to 2 back surgeries. My family doctor has refused to give me anymore. I was taking 2 500mg tablets twice a day. I have been without now for 4 days. He has refused to take my calls for help. I do have an appointment Thursday with a pain doctor that I hope can help. I have had only 5 hours sleep in the past 4 days. Any suggestions on what I can do to get some sleep?

Hi Ken, Why some Doctors do this I don't see the definate reason for it. I presume you were talking abot Tramadol 50mgs not 500mgs as you've stated otherwise I could see the reason he withheld your prescription. Admittedly many of us have been there after many years of bone pain which isn't pleasant especially linked with sleeplessness. In my case I took two Paramol prior to bed which did the trick; the tablets are available from any chemist and are normally used for pain. Once you see your Pain Doctor on Thursday all should be taken care off.

    All the best...........................Ron.

I was taking Tramadol together with Amitriptyline. 2 Tramadol 4 times a day and one Amitripyline at night.

When anxiety kicked in I decided to do something about it so started coming off gradually. I'm now on one Tramadol and one Amitriptyline at night. No problems doing it but it's taken me 8 months to get here.

The thing is though, Tramadol does kill the pain that lesser drugs don't even reach, and together with Amitriptyline which is good for nerve pain has no equal. It's realy a case of controlling it and not letting it control you.

Weighing up the benefits against the side effects I think I would be silly to stop all together. I don't like the idea of depending on something but I hate the pain even more, especially at night when there are no distractions to help me cope with it.

Hi Steve, Your certainly right regarding needing 'something' to help in relieving constant pain. I read an article in reference to painkilling drugs being non addictive to the person using them to quell pain entirely and for nothing else. In other words Steve, you and me are taking these medications to give us relief from pain and not for the 'High' the junkie is after. For us they become more as a necessity we so badly need; anyway I have to take analgesics for the rest of my natural as my Arthritis is not going to improve, rather the opposite. So addiction is not a necessary oppostion to me..............................Ron.

Thanks to all. It is 500mg and they are still treating me for my L-4 that is over half gone. I hope they will help me with something. I can cope during the day but not at night. Anyway thanks for the comments and I will post after I see the Doctor on Thursday.
