    Hi eric,

low carb is the way to go. the research is all out of date - low fat etc (it takes 10-15yrs for new research to get in to the public domain so dont believe all you hear. Especially from the medical profession as they now almost nothing about nutrition.I am a research nurse and do my own research. i know you dont want to buy any books but you may get it on ebay - The Diet Trap by Dr John Biffa 9medical doctory) is very good.

    I wish you well.

PS exercise is also key to thyroid health.

      Thanks for that.

Ive played sports all my life and have struggled over the last few years because I continue to put on wieght-my instructer understands but like me finds it funny to a degree.

I have been looking recently at the volume of books and must admit there seems to be an awful amount written without out any definative answers

    Hi!

I've managed to finally lose 54 lbs. since September!  Outside of being active, like I know you said you used to, I also found eating "clean" is a good way to go.  When you get rid of the items that weren't actually planted, you can do so much better.

Your body doesn't have to work on all the processed items when you eat clean.  Low sugars, low carbs and activity is the way to go.  Just walking is a good way to work it out until you've leveled out.

         Good luck!

Thanks for that.  I think more research needed which is where the minefield is looming on the hrizon

Past couple of years spent plodding on with fitness and getting the hump with putting weight on.  Mostly eat fresh fish, fishmonger, and fresh meat , local butcher, with very little veg bought from supermarkets.  Very little processed foods as I tend to read the packets and can see what's in them

I know, its not that simple, I have been on a journey for years and am now studying nutrition and health. Sometimes you just have to experiment what works for you. It could well be a Gluten thing (very difficult for us to digest) the trouble is we a creatures of habit and its hard to give up the habits of a lifetime. Low carb is certainly working for me. Go well

Habits of a lifetime I agree are difficult to discard but good coaching, sports, and an interest into what goes into my body have become an invaluable part of my life.

Very little beer, red wine my preference, and no coffee are the order of the day

As with my response to Alyssa i think I need to work through this which is the same advise you are suggesting.  Pity there is no one remedy fits all

    LOL  I agree!

I've been waiting for the "Magic Pill" for about 8 1/2 years!
