how to maintain control

I was diagnosed with LS after a biopsy about 2 years ago. My GYN put me on Clobetasol Cream for about 4 months and she told me to use it if I had flare ups. So far, I've done pretty well using the Clobetasol occasionally if needed. I also use Estrace 2 times a week.  I have noticed that my inner labias have shrunk to almost nothing on one side and a lot on the other. I am wondering how often I should use the Clobetasol now and if there is anything more I can do to prevent further changes.  I am going to start paying closer attention to my diet as I did not know sugar or dairy might be a trigger.

    Any way from my own experience I have had LS for about 16 years with several years in remission intermittently gosh it is such a weird condition. 

    Anyway I firmly believe dairy free and sugar limited diet help take the heat out of your body and so control LS much better. 

    I have Chinese acupuncture for well being and Dr Liu suggested try sugar n dairy free diet and drink room temp water, so your body doesn’t heat up trying to get cold drinks to your natural body temp   Made sense and difference to me.  

    In the past few months my perineum which was split continually, due to passing motions.  Has actually healed   Yes healed itself.  I am only using maybe once,  a week a teeny tiny bit Betnovate and always coconut oil ??

    I am thrilled, as last year my consultant was talking about surgery !!

      Thanks so much for your advice.  Thankfully I have not had a lot of problem with cracked skin so far but the Coconut oil sounds like a smart thing to use too.  I will certainly try to cut back on the sugar and dairy. Who knows, it might help me lose a couple pounds too smile  Always have to look for the silver lining in this.

      I use coconut oil for cooking and instead of butter, coconut milk in coffee ?? 

      ?? Coconut oil versatility 

      No chocolate ! but drink red wine 🍷 for medicinal properties 🤣😂🤣

    Hi there.  Good advice, here's my list of tips.

    Try to cut out sugar, and if you are flaring avoid sugar completely.

    Try going gluten free for a month and see if you notice any improvement.  It seriously helps some women. We are all different but you might just be that women that does better without gluten.

    I avoid dairy if I can. I drink Oat milk one week, soy the next, then rice milk.  Rotation helps.

    You could try adding some supplements. Vitamin D is important, as is a good probiotic.  

    I like the tip re water.  I notice I react to water and have to drink it room temp.  I also avoid super hot drinks.

    Hello Pat

    I have started to react to coconut oil on my skin, it makes me sore, It didn't at first, so I would advise anyone to not use it constantly. I have had very good results with Borax, colour has come back, shrinking stopped and seams are appearing where bits had disappeared. It's slow progress but I can see changes. I love avocado oil with a few drops of chamomile essential oil in it instead, very soothing.

    I also limit sugar which helps. I eat gluten, but make all my own sourdough bread, I firmly believe that it's not the gluten that many people react to but the rubbish that's in many commercial breads to turn them around quickly. Also the wheat and yeast don't have time to make their chemical changes, and are still full of the things that aren't good for you. In a long fermentation they change. I worry that there's a lot of rubbish and sugars in the supermarket gluten free ranges, they want to get the 'mouth feel' that we're familiar with. Get in the habit of reading the ingredients lists, things constantly surprise me. Often the 'Basics' ranges have cleaner ingredients lists than the luxury ranges.

    I have a square of 85% cocoa chocolate a day - it's good for my mental health! And so is the occasional glass of wine. Stress is a trigger and, after 8 years of living with LS, I've decided I don't need the stress of worrying about every mouthful. It was liberating, but I pretty much know how to manage myself now. Maybe I'm just lucky and others are more reactive than me. The best thing I have in my arsenal is Borax. Alistar is a saint for discovering this. Have a look at the thread 'An Experiment With Borax.'

    There's so much good advice on these threads. We are all different, try out the things that people suggest work for them, and in time you will work out your own favourites.

      It is interesting how LS prefers a rotation of creams and oils.  Coconut oil is something I cannot use because it is very high in salicylates which is a major problem for me.  Emu oil is good.

    I use the Clobetasol twice a week. It's forever to prevent flare ups. So far it's working very well. I haven't had any flare-ups in 2 years. I also use Emuaid when I'm having some mild pain. I have some other issues too. Take care.
