Do not go cold Turkey! I was on Omeprazole for 2 1/2 months and had to wean off them! I had to take every other day for a week then every 2 days then every 3 days and so on. I was fine, no issues from them.

For a year I had pressure above my stomach, but in the center below my rib cage. shortness of breath, sore throat, stuffy nose, heartburn off and on. finally went to the doctor. he sent me for a barium swallow, showed narrowing at the distal end of the esophagus. sent me for colonoscopy and endoscopy! the narrowing was from inflammation because of silent reflux. also found a sliding hiatal hernia! had 5 biopseys they were clear. put on omprezole for 21/2 months! then wean off meds. besides that I was on a strict diet, small meals frequently, slowly chewing and swallowing. no soda, wine, etc. I also took 1 teaspoon of honey 3x a day. all cleared up! for a year I had been great. then came the holidays , wine, chocolate all the bad stuff. lately I have been having the pressure so I just started back on pepcid 1x a day and back on the diet. so it seems I can never get off the diet. I have to say STRESS makes things worse. Getting massages helps too. It's all in the diet! no over eating! I have to say I was so sick, It was bad. Weight gain is out because it makes symptoms worse. no bending or lifting while in this situation especially after eating. taking walks after meals helps too. Hope this helps! Weaning off the meds DOES NOT make everything come back if done right. watching what u eat is the answer, small meals frequently! Dont stress it does get better

I do the vitamins every other day! I have to say small meals 4-5x a day. NEVER wait till you are starving. even if it's only crackers. walk away from stress!.

Nancy,
Did they do anything for the narrowing of your esophagus. I had an endoscopy yesterday and doctor said i had some narrowing and they did dilated my esophagus. i am still waiting for a call from my doctor to explain better this since when she talk to me i was still coming off the anesthesia, so don't remember everything. did you have trouble swallowing or chest pain? I only had chest pain and something feel the food going down but no pain swallowing. I will appreciate your respondce. Thank you!

my issue was inflammation cause by reflux and at the distal end of the esophagus. Because of the location they couldn't stretch it. stretching the esophagus is very common! feeling the food going down slowly or getting stuck or feeling like it wont go down is usually why they stretch it. sometimes stretching may need to be done again but not for usually a year. Anxiety is usually a major reason the throat needs to be stretched.

I bought some potassium bicarbonate to help treat my type 2 diabetes but it also helps with over acid stomach symptoms. It tastes bad but is healthier than sodium bicarbonate. But it does not last all night.

i am Just discovering this discussion group. I have been on PPIs for about four years. it is creating some wicked symptoms, including but not limited to peripheral neuropathy, memory loss and some kidney problems, along with some heart arrhythmias. The heart arrhythmias are troublesome as I had open heart surgery about six months ago. The Dexlansoprazole that I was on was not helping me very much and I do have all the other symptoms from acid reflux that everybody else mentions. I have practically gone cold turkey From the dexlansoprazole because It was giving me a very bad peripheral neuropathy. however going cold turkey has been very difficult and has created a great deal of pain and aggravation. But my memory is clearing up already and I’m not getting as many heart arrhythmias as I was just a week ago. Really important stuff. If anyone out there can help me with getting better quickly or having any hints I would really appreciate it. I look forward to your response.
