How to walk?

Posted , 6 users are following.

Have had PMR in my shoulders/neck for 4 years.  Rheumy suggested I just stay at 7.5 since I've flared twice even at this level pred.

A few weeks back I stopped plaqeunil and methotrexate.

5 days ago I woke up in bad pain in my left hip/thigh and I sort of recognize the pain as PMR.  Only last night was I able to put full weight on it for a blip of time.

How can it have moved to my leg after 4 years?!  Needless to say I'm distressed.  Could it be something else?

Now I'm fearful it will move to my other leg and I won't be able to walk at all.

I ordered a cane yesterday on amazon and have upped my pred dose to 20.

Thoughts?

How do those with hip PMR walk?

It is better than day one, so maybe it will continue to improve.

It probably isn't "hip PMR" - it is more likely trochanteric bursitis which is commonly found along with PMR - it causes the outside aspect of the leg to be sore, especially when you lie on it, and pain in the groin. Although higher doses of pred do eventually calm it down, a steroid injection into the local area has a far better effect.

A walking stick is a good idea. How you feel about having one I think partly depends on age.I first needed one age 46yr but now aged 59yr I do not give a toss although sometimes dream of not needing it (my balance is not as good as it was so stick acts as extra leg/adult comfort blanket☺.

Thanks for responding you two!  I appreciate it.

Yeah Gillian, if it weren't for the pain, I'd be concerned that I'm awfully young (59!) for a cane.

And thank you Eileen!  I looked up  trochanteric bursitis.   Certain things don't fit:  it doesn't hurt more lying on my left, and activity makes it better, not worse, however I certainly hope you are right!   Will post again.

    Thanks!!!

Well, woke ip yesterday and today pain-free in both legs!!

The body is so weird.  I was in terrible pain a week ago.

I'm thinking and hoping Eileen was right :-)   The two ailments are so similar, but how, after 4 years of shoulders/neck only PMR should suddenly want a bite of my hips is beyond me.

I trust Eileen, who is so knowledgeable and has been on here forever, that PMR doesn't act that way?

Anyway, woo hoo!  Imagine my happiness waking with no leg pain.

      Grateful for this forum,

      Pamela
