HPV and steroid treatment

Hi,
Im starting to worry about the clobetasol cream and history of high risk HPV. I have a history and worry that steroid creams will cause cancer due to my history. I know there is no other choice but to use these treatments but it still really concerns me.
Also, Ive been using clobetasol and other steroid creams, following the advice of my gyno and i still seem to have flareups more then i like...Has anyone else taken a long time for symptoms to resolve? I'm really starting to worry about cancer especially my anal area which seems like the worst. I have a appt scheduled with a dermatologist next month because i feel that the current medications arent working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated to ease my anxiety filled mind:)

HI, I have now been diagnosed a year and still having flare ups.
Latest seems to be the steroid ointment and have stopped using .
Vaseline apart from my douce of lavender oil and bicarb was a relief.
I am British but live in Spain and have come across some cream made by Instituito Espanol it is really helping .
Hope you feel better soon it can be so miserable and uncomfortable xx

Hi lisabalto,
I don't think steroid would increase your risk of cancer from what I have been told, but it is essential in the management of LS.
I saw a dermatologist last week and asked if there was a possibility of increased cancer risk with having HPV and LS together and she said no. She said the presence of HPV is linked to higher risk of cancer as we know, but LS and HPV together don't make the risk higher. She told me I would know if I had cancer symptoms (there are obvious signs, like lumps/ulcers) and that the risk of developing cancer when LS is managed is 5%, much the same as all population's risk with any type of cancer. It's so confusing.
Hope that eases your mind a little though.

Hello I have been steroid free for at least 2 years. I also was concerned with being reliant on steroids. I have actually found that my skin now is the same as it was when i was regularly using steroid creams anyway! Id think about making changes internally rather than steroids. Ive recently cut out alcohol (mostly) making the effort to eat a balanced diet (limited sweet treats) I am also seeing a chinese doctor who gives me herbs and reccomends to avoid sea food. Sadly there is limited research into LS but from my experience various steroid creams had limited impact for me. However this is my personal experience! Hope this helps. X
