    hi fatema,

i will be interested what feedback you get from your question.

i always thought i made a mistake by taking HRT as when i stopped them 12 years later i went through another menopause.

i also hold this drug responsible for making my fibroids grow again.

must confess i dont know what zoladex is.

Why not hysterectomy over a myomectomy? You are too young to have a hysterectomy and perhaps you could wait until you reached menopause to see if the problem subsides. Ask your dr if laparoscopy myomectomy is possible to remove the fibroids as its minimal invasive surgery, recovery time is very fast.

Thank you Helen. The doctor that disgnosed fibroids in the country where i work did suggest a myomectomy. But as i was coming hme for the summer he said i may be more at ease with an operation in my hme country. The doctor here straightaway said hysterctomy and tablets incl hrt. I feel now very confused. Doctors are supposed to help. And i stiill dont know what longterm use of these injections are.

It could be that ur current dr is not skilled in laparoscomy surgery. Hysterectomy is no longer the answer to removing fibroids therefore I would strongly wait till you go home to find a dr to make the laparoscopy myomectomy.

With hysterectomy its a huge operation with 6 -8 week recovery time plus other complications that could arrise. With laparoscopy surgery you need 24-48 hrs recovery period in hospital. I went back to work on the fourth day and it took 6 weeks till I was able to hit the gym again; the scars are 3 x 1 inch and the stitched fell off on their own.

Hysterectomy is a totally different and much more serious matter.

I dont know much about medical treatment or injections for fibroids as I never had them but I hear some women take Esmya ( spelling?) which my dr also advised but I just wanted them removed and opted for surgery.

It is important to remember that everyone is different and so are their reactions to medication, teatment and surgery. I had Zoladex for three months. It made me have insomnia which lasted for 6months which made me very tired and emotional ( I was working full time), you also get menopausal symptoms. I have also had Esmya . . . this was to shrink fibroids before surgery but I had to come off it within a week. I had a fibroid embolisation in January which went well, however soon after I became very poorly and got septicaemia and had to have an emergency hysterectomy. I am now on hrt, even though I was against it I am now glad of it. I am 48 and still recovering, although it has been a tough year I would still encourage you to look at all the options. Gynaecologists are often quick to suggest Hystercetomy but if you haven't started to go through the menopause naturally then it is a big shock for your body (and your brain!) to adjust afterwards. Talk in depth to your gp, its great to get advice from the forums but as I said we are all different and all have specific health issues. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
