HRT before hysterectomy

Hi, As some of you may know I'm waiting for a total hysterectomy, although I haven't received a date yet. I have mentioned before that I am perimenaausal and I'm having hot flushes and terrible night sweats. As soon as I go to bed my body just seems to heat up. Last night I couldn't sleep much and felt as if it was one of those hot summers nights where you're constantly hot and just can't sleep because of it.

My questions are, if I started HRT now, then had my hysterectomy including removal of my ovaries, would my body be even more confused and my symptoms be even worse? Has anyone else been on HRT before having a total hysterectomy?

Depending on how far away the op is it could help plus you'd know what suited you but I think you have to come off of it leading up to op anyway. I'm sure I read that on my hrt leaflets. I've not got kne to look at right now. Ask your consultant as they'll know best if doing op. Good luck with the procedure.

Thanks for replying. So if I need to come off before the op and then go back on I can't help but think I'll be mucking my body around too much. If it gets any worse I think I will make an appointment to see my GP, as I know I won't be able to get one with my consultant, and talk not over with her. It would be good to hear from any other ladies who have been in a similar situation though.

I haven't a clue when the op will be. Had my pre op assessment on 12th Jan and as far as I'm aware they only last for 3 months, so I'm hoping it won't be too long.

You have to ask the doctor you have to take it without estrogen when you had it I think

Hi Angie, I can see where your coming from my op was 8 weeks ago now, I'm still not on hrt, I'm doing ok it's inly the night sweats that can be occasionally bothersome. I have drastically changed my diet before my op though and lost alot of weight I'm still on a healthy eating plan now and also cut out my caffeine which seems to have helped loads.

    Take care x

      Hi Ann.

Good to hear from you and that feeling good aswell.☺

I do eat healthily too. Think we're doing the same diet if I remember right. But the caffeine is interesting - thanks. I drink coffee and on average have around 5 or 6 cups a day, but, because of the diet I do drink quite alot of diet coke. So maybe I need to switch to the decaff one and maybe not have a coffee before I go to bed.

8 weeks! That's gone quickly, although maybe not for you. Have you gone back to work yet? X
