HRT MENOPAUSE QUESTIONS

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am 47 and had my last period over 4 years ago. I managed the hot flushes well with herbal supplements and was fine until this past month. Suddenly I am having panic attacks, especially when trying to sleep, lower face painful cysts, huge weight gain and awful vaginal dryness and headaches. I was referred to gynae department who said HRT. When I asked further she said ask your doctor. GP said ask gynae! I'm feeling very stressed and exhausted. I really don't want to put on any more weight - I've already gone from 7.5 stones to 9.7. I thought I had all this menopause business under control but this past month with all these new symptoms has been awful. I'm wondering if there's anyone who has tried the patches and not gained weight? Many thanks everyone x

Hi third attempt at writing this? I was like you did really well with menopause symptoms, then it all started one day with really hot sweats/anxiety/poorsleep/ & lost confidence. All  started after my periods stopped i am now Post menopausal. Go back to see your GP as thats who prescribed mine. I do see a gynocologist who is happy for me to be on them. I take the tablets but a few of my friends have the patches so not sure about weight gain? I will say it's great to feel back to normal, i felt unable to function as i should, Hope this helps keep in touch.

Hi. I started Evorel Conti patches 10 months ago. I gained around 8lb but have lost some since. I felt 'fuller', breasts tender and plumper face. But this soon settled. The benefits far outweigh the gaining of a few pounds. Skin and hair better, flushes and sweats gone. Anxiety and palpitations gone. This took about six weeks.

As we get older we do gain weight and it's up to us how we deal with it if it's bothersome. More exercise, change eating habits.

Vagifem pessaries will help the vaginal dryness. And Omega 7, sea buckthorn supplements, a friend tells me helps her.

Hope you find something to help soon.

My confidence, feelings of self-worth and brain fog have been so much better too.

Thank you ladies for your help. I'd been 4 years with no period and no problems so I was completely unprepared for these anxiety attacks, acne etc. It's lovely to know I'm not going crazy! x

Hi there. Sorry to hear about your problems. I was the same re herbal stuff but eventually they were not helping the flushes so resorted to HRT patches & haven't looked back. Was sick of waking 2 or 3 times in the night then being constantly tired which made me grumpy. luckily no other symptoms but why not give it a go. Good luck.

I'm so afraid of gaining weight. Have gained 2 stones in menopause and can't risk gaining more. Did you put on weight with the patches?

I had always been around 9 stones prior to menopause but had gained a little after going on to contracetive injections (annoyed I wasn't warned). Although I'm not huge I would like to lose about 7lbs. Finding it hard now at 66 but at least no flushes or other symptoms. Would also be glad to hear if anyone else has overcome this.

I have been on HRT for 5 years after hysterectomy.  I read about weight gain when on estrogen so I also take progesterone to balance them out. I have lost weight (which I did not want to do) so have increased my estrogen to try and put on some weight!
