HRT or not

hi, I'm new to this, have never used a forum before, my last period was 25/12/15, so more than 6 months free, I lost my mum in early December and my brother very suddenly 2 months later, then Mother Nature said, try the menopause as well, so not only am I still grieving, I'm have 40 odd hot flushes a day, mood swings, and a general feeling like I can't cope any more, the dr has put me on a mild dose anti depressant, as I said I didn't want Hrt, but having read a few articles, I'm now thinking about it and could really use all your experiences of it.... Thanks in advance

    Ah mandy I feel your pain I lost my brother then 6 months later my mum.It tips your world upside down and menopause also is terrible. I went on antidepressants and to be honest they have helped me ride the worst time ever. It's not easy and you will have highs and lows but it is to be expected. Just let it happen and keep in touch with your Dr .when you feel like a good cry let it out it can only help.You are not alone with this and you will find chatting on here a great help. Hope this helps.

    Hi mandy sorry to hear of your loss bless you what a lot to cope with , no wonder you are having it bad, the best advice i can give you is go and buy some 2500 sage the strong ones for hot flushes they work , well they did for me the flushes calmed and got better in 5 days then 4 months later i dont get any. This will help you stay a bit calmer when these go , i also take starflower oil 1000 this keeps my moods better to, also i have cut out wheat and sugar and alcahol  not that i drink much  i found not having these helped no end please try all these things also kalms and rescue remedy when needed and camomile tea last thing at night. good luck and take care let us all know how you get on

    Hiya Mandy 1961

    Mother nature can be a bitch , you definitely didn't need that on top of your losses.

    My hot flushes started last July 2015 I wanted to go on hrt anything to stop them , since then I've tried 5 different types and non have agreed with me as they all caused me severe headaches.

    You say the doctor has given you anti depressants if your on them you shouldn't need htt for your flushes because they should help you may just need your dose increased

    The reason I say this is because my doctor recommended I went on them to stop my flushes but I didn't want to go down that root of anti depressants so I'm still suffering although i have started on some herbal tablets so hoping they might help.

    Have a chat to your doctor .

    Sorry for you loss, I went through something similar when I loss my mom and menopause decided to try itself on me. I tried hrt but it didn't work so then I went on a low dose birth control which worked like a charm. I suggest you talk to you doctor about your hot flashes, as I went through horrible hot flashes myself after i went off the pill. Flax seed oil helped me get rid of them along with a Hot flash pill bought over the counter. Macca also helps and St. John's wort. I hear primrose oil is good also but that didn't work for me. Flaxseed oil worked the best taking it everyday. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

    Thanks ladies, I do take sage, and multi vitamins, I've also got a ladycare menopausal magnet, that you wear in your underwear, I'll certainly take on board all that has been said, it's nice to know I'm not alone, it can certainly feel that way xx

    Hi Mandy,

    I lost my mum in 2012 and I was going through peri I had anti depressants (thought my depression had got worse because mum was so ill).

    After I was post 2 years I was just so very hot all the time I decided to try HRT and what a lovely surprise, I wish I'd tried it sooner.

    The depression lifted almost from the get go. Anxiety heart palpitations long standing aches and pains everything is so much better.

    I did try a lot of supplements and also the lady care magnate but the HRT sorted all of it out,feeling much better.

    Hi Mandy,  I am so sorry you have suffered two such hard losses so close together!  I can't even imagine!  I would talk to your doctor, I really think HRT would help a great deal!  There is so much going on in your body right now, you clearly are in need of some help, even if it is for a short time.  There is no shame in antidepressants, as they really do help!  You can take both at the same time, especially at first.  You can always stop the antidepressant at any time...but slowly as directed by your doctor of course.  Don't try to do it all on your own.  The HRT will help settle things down, and let the antidepressants do their work, you will be feeling much better very soon.  I wish you luck Dear!!  You can keep posting here, keep talking with your doctor, family and friends.  You are not alone, and we are here for you as well.  You can send any one of us a private post if you like too if you like.  You take care of YOU!

    Bless You!!  {{{{HUGS}}}}
