Hrt patches and raised BP

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am 74 and been on HRT for 26 yrs. Recently my BP has become much higher and I don’t know why. GPs have been wanting me to stop HRTbut I have been so well and healthy - no history of cancer but my mum suffered from depression and that is why I continued to take it. It really has been a very effective  antidepressant for depression associated with hormonal fluctuations and menopause. Now not sure if it has anything to do with high BP.

Wow..26 years. What all have you been on and did it take them lomg time to figure out what amts and things you needed in the beg ? I am 10 mo in and want to feel great like .you said but it's been a challenge figuring out what i heed exactly and I am only 43 but had partial hyster. Have you been able to stay on same amounts this whole time or have you needed to change as got older..if doing well for you I would keep them..i just wanted to hear from someme who has been on them so long. Any advice for me

      Hi Mary

I’ve been on Hrt for nearly 15 years

Past 8 years tho I’ve taken one every other day and that seems to suit me. I’m 57 and had total hysterectomy

I have mammogram every 3 years. BP’s fine up to now. And hair and skin is absolutely fine. I’m on tiberlone 2.5mg

I know a lady who’s been on it for 30 years plus and said she will keep on it forever. Hope that helps

What are you on and is it the same as what you have been on for 15 years? Did it take a long time to get your right in the beg and then were able to stay on that amount? I had partial hyster and 43 and just having hard time figuring out what best amts and all for me, but hope once we do that I can stay on that long time

Started with tabs but cannot remember name or time. Maybe 18 yrs ago?  I imagine using patches for 10yrs or so now .Evorel Conti -3.2 mg estradiol HEMIHYDRATE  11.2 mg NORTHISTERONE ACETATE.  - applied 1 per 3 1/2 days. about 6 months ago Dr persuaded me to reduce the dose so I used 1 patch every 5 days and about 3months ago to 1 patch every 6 days .

Just read study by John Studd and then decided to put on a patch because I was not happy with advise to stop using until I had seen a gynaecologist .

Hi Mary I have not had a hysterectomy and the dose and form changed over the years. I begun on tablets and later reduced the dose and eventually I am taking a small does by transdermal patches.  Evorel Conti.

       Kind regards

    Hi Pauline,

Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Hypothyroid can be a reason for high blood pressure. Also ask about getting parathyroid checked.

I attend a clinic that Studd set up with Nick Panay. I'm told estrogen can help lower high blood pressure, whilst testosterone can raise it.

    Best wishes!

Thank you , my doctor mentioned getting my thyroid checked and I am awaiting blood test results. Nothing was mentioned about parathyroid but would that automatically be included in test results or is that a different test?

At the clinic you attend does anyone have any information / experience of using Evorel Contini patches long term?

       kind regards

The specialist gynae nurse suggested getting parathyroid checked via my GP (I've recently developed unusually high blood pressure). My GP has refused to let me have one though.  It's a separate test, not done with the usual Thyroid tests. I think I'm going to ask my hypertension clinic at Bart's, to check it for me.

I'm not back to my gynae clinic for 3 months, otherwise I'd ask for you, but if you want to see them, get a GP referral to the Menopause Clinic at Chelsea & Westminster, they're very good.
