Hrt taken with anti depressants

I've suffered with depression on and off over the years and am in ad's. Im peri menopausal and my doctor has put me on elleste duet conti tablets (hrt). I've been on them a couple of months now but have read that hrt should be carefully given to women who suffer with depression. Anyone in the same boat as me?

My depression has been up and down for two years since menopause started. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hi I also have depression. I'm too sensitive to ad's. I'm currently going thru finding right HRT and ad's. Which ad are you on?

I'm on venlafaxine and mirtazapine. These past two years have been a nightmare rollercoaster since I started the menopause. Has your depression started with the menopause or have you always suffered?

I've always, along with anxiety, had it but I was able to do stuff.

It's in the last 11 months that it really became debilitating and all these peri symptoms (off balance, woozy, fatigue, overwhelm, major brain fog, palpitations, tingling, doom and gloom feelings, wobbly legs, weepy mood swings)

I'm taking mirtazipine 3.75 mg if I go higher I get side effects.

Have you not found any relief?

I have a couple of weeks when I feel good but it doesn't last and I don't know why. My depression comes and then disappears for a good while but not since the menopause. Just can't stay on an even keel.

How old are you and are you still having periods?

I'm 47 just got off the BC pill but before that last year was having periods.

      Is your HRT helping?

I'm 54. No period for 6 months. I don't know if the hrt is making me worse. I just don't know.

I can understand. That's frustrating when you can't tell. I was the same way with BC pill. I think it was losing its effects as my pms got worse at the 6 month mark of being on it. And it's known to cause depression so I wasn't sure if it was making my depression worse.

I can't believe all this upheaval is caused by hormones.

I am always so sad to read of people being at their lowest, I can totoally relate as I am also in that position right now. My first two attempts at HRT (Kliogest & Tiberlone) I found my demeanor to lift rather quickly and stay elevated.

Crushingly the 2 medications also caused me to bleed heavily so I had to stop them, both times the overwhelming sadness and depression would return. Trying a third Femoston Conti (which contains est and progest to prevent further bleeding) - has be slower to assist but think it is making a small difference, have to be tuned into breathing and listening to something to occupy my mind when alone. This indeed is the worst thing I have ever gone through in life. Have found HRT far better than any anti - dep for me.

Wishing you all well and able to find the individual treatment to suit you best - we are all so vastly different and there are so many options and no where near enough research as yet to help peri/meno sufferers.

    Loui x

      Thanks.

I wish the names would be consistent throughout different countries. I don't think this one is even available in the U.S.

Oh that's a pain, do you have patches in the US ? Or is it just pills ?

We have patches but they are named differently and/ or not sold here. Makes it challenging.
