HSP is genetic

Today I took my eight year old to see specialist in New Orleans that deal with HSP. After meeting with an urologist and the a nephrologist we finally had some answers. My sons condition has been going on for 4 months now, as of the last two weeks we have seen an improvement. After multiple tests we are clear with any renal damage as of now. Had a long talk with the nephrologist and he stated that all the research being done now is bringing them to the conclusion that HSP is the mirror image of another type of and IGa disorder. This telling them that it is indeed genetic and that they are attempting to isolate the gene. He stated that a significant viral or bacterial infection will jump start the disease. It is recurring and never really goes away, symptoms

Will lessen over time for mild cases. We meet again in four months for more testing and he will then send us to have bone scans done since it will also affect the joints. I have to say I left with peace of mind, finally.

HSP mimics other autoimmune disorder sysmptoms. HSP is usually caused by chemical, infectious or food allergies.

PLEASE ALL OF YOU KEEP UP ON THIS!! My daughter was diagnosed with HSP when she was 5 or 6 (2002/2003). We didn't get the right care and at 16 was in full renal failure. She had a transplant at 17 and that was attacked by the HSP. The Drs didn't take the affected kidneys out during surgery. Now at 21 she is back on dialysis and going through pancreatitis which is possibly the HSP noe attacking her pancreas. I CANNOT stress enough to any mother to keep up in this crappy disease. And if any of you have any questions, please feel free to message me. My daughter never had a chance, I would love to be able to help.

Could you share the doctor’s name? I’m in the New Orleans area also. My son was just diagnosed on Friday. He had ITP another auto immune disorder when he was 10 weeks old. He is now 16. I believe both were triggered by vaccinations but there’s got to be a genetic component. What other IG disorder did the doctor say was a mirror image of HSP?
