HSV 1 & 2 ??

Is it possible for someone to have antibodies for HSV 1 (4.66 on an IgG) but zero for HSV 2 (with no outbreak/symptoms) and still have HSV 2?

Ok, so if you have both strains antibodies would be positive for both correct? Sorry, I am just trying to solve a riddle here. (Or so it seems)

Yes, although the HerpeSelect IgG test can apparently miss one in four cases of HSV1, but not HSV2, etc. Different antibodies are still produced in both cases, though. It's just a test kit issue.

So having hsv1 would not affect test results for hsv 2 (cause a false negative) ? Or cause “immunity” as they say?

Pre-existing HSV1 can cause a low false positive for HSV2 with the HerpeSelect IgG test kit, but not a false negative. The reverse does not occur. Established HSV1 affords little to no protection against HSV2, but established HSV2 seems to afford immunity against HSV1.
