HSV 1 and kissing

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have just been diagnosed with HSV 1 and just had my first outbreak on my genitals. I've only had 4 partners and I believe I've narrowed it down to which one it was.

My question is, can I spread this by kissing, even if I have no or ever had a cold sore?

I'm so overwhelmed!

No, you can't spread it by kissing. Unless during an outbreak you touch the sores and then touch your mouth. Type 1 can spread to the eyes, thighs, mouth. Especially, since it prefers the oral area. So, just make sure to wash your hands after going to the bathroom and/or touching down there during an outbreak.

I agree with above. Kissing should be good to go just wash your hands if you touch yourself. Don't let him go down on you during an outbreak. Sex use condoms. I'm not diagnosed yet still... Thought I'd have answers today but now it won't be until Thursday bye the test I took isn't even reliable. Oh well. I'm done overthinking and driving myself crazy. Just use your best judgement everything will be ok. Hugs!

P.s I dated a guy two years who had cold sores on his mouth. Only had one outbreak and I never got anything. I know it's slightly different but not really. P.s.s. My symptoms are not from him it's from a more recent contact from a new partner. My symptoms aren't severe so no one knows what I have. Waiting on blood test.

Honestly, yes I wouldn't wish herpes even on my worse enemy because it can be very painful but it really is just a disease that every 1 in 4 woman will have. It is so common and half the people who do have it never get symptoms so they don't realize they are passing it on since doctors do not check for herpes during std tests. HSV-1 is better than HSV-2. You barely will even have outbreaks because it prefers the oral area. Plus, there is less shedding. It's even less common to pass HSV-1 through intercouse. You're boyfriend might need some education on it himself because touching you/kissing you will not give him herpes.

Thank you. Sadly, I don't think he gets the anger and frustration I am trying to work through right now.
