Hsv 1 genital tranmissiom with pre existing oral infection

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have just been diagnosed with oral HSV 1. my partner has had HSV1 oral for as long as I have known her.

while the WHO indicated a person with pre existing oral HSV1 is unlikely to to get genital infection with HSV1 there is contradicting information online.

I was hoping to see what other peoples experiences might be in regard to this. I.e have you had a pre existing hsv oral infection and gotten a subsequent genital infection of the same type?

thanks

I don't think your going to find a solid, science based answer on this. However there is research that states if you have a well established HSV infection in one place (oral/facial for a long time) the likelihood of getting that same type elsewhere is unlikely, due to developed antibodies. But not impossible. However, if you're newly exposed both genitally and orally at the same time, chances exist that you could become infected in both areas with that encounter. If newly exposed, it takes sometime for antibodies to develop. Hope that helps.
