    There's not much difference

HSV1 loves to infect lips and cause cold sores, but it can occasionally infect genitals .

HSV2 is the other way around. It loves to infect genitals but occasionally infects the lips.

I've just been diagnosed with HSV1 too! So theres not much difference HSV 1 generally affects the lips and HSV 2 affects the genitals. We should find ourselves lucky because over 80% of people have the HSV 1 virus in their bodies, and reoccurences hardly or never happen in the genitals. The doctor told me that when this first outbreak goes away I most likely wont get another one. Whereas HSV 2 reoccurs several times a year

HSV1 tends to favour the lips and mouth. But there is a huge increase in HSV1 genitally.

HSV2 is mainly genital but rarely occur orally.

You can have both strains also, this is very rare.

You also can spread it to other areas on your body known as auto inoculation! This is mainly within the first 6months.

Your doctor is some what right. Usually HSV1 will be less severe with outbreaks, usually 1-2 a year! Some people with genital HSV1 experience worse outbreaks then people with HSV2. Viral shedding is also very slightly less in genital HSV1. Both strains are very similar and HSV1 is now becoming more prevalent genitally.

Outbreaks happen to everyone differently depending on what triggers yours, your immunity and also how long you have it. So yes with HSV1 you may never have a outbreak again but you may also have frequent outbreaks.

If you are newly diagnosed don’t be surprised if you develop one! You’ll learn to sense your prodromes on time! So always have a stock of antivirals 😃

I was one who experienced an extreme outbreak. I had deep ulcers, fissures and blisters on my labia, vagina opening, in my vagina and cervix, in my anus but mainly on the inside of my buttocks. Every part of my downstairs was covered in sores

yeah so was i. but i have type 2!

any outbreaks ive had since have been very mild and now none since suppression!

i was just saying yes you might be lucky and not experience any more or you could have them frequently, even with type 1.

someone i know with type 1 had more outbreaks then me! just depends how your body deals with it.
