HSV-2 and HPV ...... :(

More bad news... Not only do I get told about the HSV-2 on the 21st... but the doctor failed to tell me that I have HPV also and that my pap smear showed abnormal cervical cells. Further testing to see if they're pre-cancerous or cancer. This sucks. More stressed out now.

Found out because I made another appt to get more informed about the big H and the nurse said did your doctor discuss your pap?? Im like yeah she said it was fine. The nurse says... Ummm no its abnormal. Way to really drop the freaking ball Doc!

    Sorry to hear that!

    It could be a lot of things...i always have abnormal pap test but my obgyn told me my cervix is turning on the outside when it's supposed to be on the inside!

    Also, cervix's cells are not growing as fast as others....it is really long to develop cervix cancer so if there is anything wrong, it is probably precancerous!

    I understand your fear! I had cancer 10 years ago...

    I know what it is to wait for your results! But i am sure you'll be fine!! The big h is enough right?

      Yes its enough just with that. And good to know. However idk how long I've had these abnormal cells. So we shall see after my next appt? Ty

      Usually, when you've got abnormal cells, you have to go to a obgyn for a colposcopy.

      They are going to pour some liquid on your cervix and look at it with a big lense...doesn't last long and not painful!

      Then, if the doctor has some doubts, he/she is going to do a biopsy...a little painful but nothing compare to an outbreak!

      Usually, there is nothing to worry about... I'm sure you'll be fine!

      Ty... Yes that's what the nurse told me today. That's the next appt Im waiting to have. Mammogram on thurs. This is one fun week. Tooth pulled two weeks ago. Im so over ut already... sad

    Oh, that sucks! Hope it's not anything serious. Since it resulted in an abnormal pap, is that indicative of high-risk HPV, or did they not say? I am also worried, because my herpes giver had past exposure to that as well. Waiting to test at six months, and if all clear, as far as they can tell, I'm getting Gardisil. Should have done it before, doh! But I'm older than the recommended age range, plus it's expensive. Still...

      Idk about high risk hpv i was only told today a week later about this. Last Monday i was told about the hsv2 and this monday the hpv and abnormal cells.

    That's how they kind of did me ,

    They simply told me about what I had , never once informed me or gave me information about it .. Nothing

    I never got told how my pap smeer went none of it which makes me nervous. I mean don't they have to tell you about these type of things ??!!

    When did you get diagnosed with both ? And how ?

      You should take your health matters into your own hands. I always follow-up and ask for a copy of important lab results, including pap smears.

      I was emailed my herpes diagnosis and lab result, as that's my preferred notification choice for this particular clinic, so not even a person to speak to until I booked a follow-up appointment, lol.

      Diagnosed at same time but i was told a week a part about them. I decided to do a follow-up and today i was informed about the hpv and abnormal cells when it was already in my chart last Monday but the doctor failed to inform me last week. Sucks.

      I do that as well... Next day picked up my lab results. But i googled all my detected stuff and idk what it is... It doesn't give me the laymen terms lol. Like idk which one is even the yeast infection smh... I just see numbers ranging from 6.5-7.5 I so over this crap. The nurse further proceeds to tell me... Well we cant tell you definitely if u have HSV2 only that u have produced antigens and until u have an OB that's the only way to confirm. So right now we can only say u hAve come in contact with the virus. What???!!!! She made me even more freaking confused today. Either i have it or not geesh. Yes I'm asymptomatic...

      If that's what she said, then that nurse doesn't know what she's talking about, which is frightening! HSV is, like you say, a case of having it or not, there's no maybe, and of course you can test and prove your status without an outbreak. Maybe she is talking about symptomatic herpes, which of course requires outbreaks, but even without, if you carry it, you carry it for life and can infect. Scares me what some people say their doctors et al. have told them!!

      If you ever need help interpreting a lab report, feel free to post or privately message me here. I'm not too bad at reading stuff like that. Also, fyi only, yeast is usually stated as candida or monilia.

      Ty Felix. I will message ui tomorrow with that info. Ans yes exactly... I was just looking at her like ... Bleep bleep bleep do i look like im stupid to you? Oh and i cannot get any suppressive meds until i have an OB she said. Smh.

    Did they tell you what level of abnormal cells? There is just abnormal then it goes CIN 1, CIN 2, CIN 3 and then after that it leads to cancerous cells.

    I have had the gardisil vaccination - it doesn't protect you against all strains of hpv so kind of a waste of time. I got CIN 2 cells anyway. Now they are down to abnormal as usually they do go away on their own. I need to get another check soon.

    Don't stress about it too much. Your doctor is a worry I would put in a huge complaint and find a better one.

      Do you know which hpv type you acquired to cause the cin2 change? I will still do gardisil, as it at least protects against the main hpv culprits, but I want to test first. It could be that you already had that hpv strain when you got gardisil. Hpv is even more tricky than hsv. Comes and goes, but there seems to be some debate as to whether it actually goes away completely or just remains suppressed and undetectable. Test window period varies greatly, too.

      I hadn't had any sexual activity before when I got the gardisil vaccinations. In Australia they gave the vaccinations in school (3 needles given I think a few months apart can't remember how long)

      Both my gp and the specialist didn't even test for hpv at all so I have no idea what strain it was. I asked why and asked about 'aggressive hpv strains' as I had researched it and they said it's basically just irrelevant and doesn't change how they treat abnormal cells. I think there are a lotttt of strains. Possibly over 100?
