I need some clarification with the result I did an IGG and IGM test and it both went back positive(attached picture) the doctor said since igm got positive it means i got the infection recently. Nov.4 when i first felt a lil pain in my vaginal opening then nov 7 when I saw two blister and nov 8 when it pop out and became ulcer. i am kindly hesistant at first to go to doctor till second week that it seems nothing change with the blister nov 21 when i went to the doctor and the ulcers seems already in the healing phase. so swab will not work. My doctor did a pap smear test and swab for the discharge and it went positive for bacterial infection and mild inflammation in my cervix. Is it always accurate that when IGM went positive it means I just got the infection recently? Is it possible that I just got infected with my boyfriend recently even though he have it for a long time? we've been together for 1 year and it's the first time i had an outbreak so if I got it recently I surely got it from him? but why just recently? is there's a possibility that he is cheating on me and just got infected recently?or he had it for a long time but I never got it yet till i had my first outbreak? I saw in the net that IGM cannot be accurate coz you can be positive with it even you had for a long time when you have an outbreak when the test was done, is it true? I need some clarification. thank you

igm means ur body has "provisional" antibodies to clear up a current infection. later your body procuces better long-term antibodies, igg.

also during recurrences igm can be positive, then ur body just produces more of those provisional antibodies.

does your guy had ever symptoms?

doesnt mean he cheated. you dont get it immediately when the other carries the virus.

he could be a silent carrier and have infected you much later in the relationship when the virus was more active / released on his skin.

he could do a bloodtest too.

so positive igm is indicative for primary infection but could also be the case during recurrences.

I have been sleeping with the same guy for 7 years and just picked up herpes from him that he didnt know he had. He has hsv1, but never had a coldsore that he can remember. He gave it to me genitally. The virus lays dormat and comes back up randomly throughout a persons life time. Since my boyfriend has never had a cold sore, hes contagious a lot less often and a lot less severe than someone who does have sores. So it makes sense that it took me this long to get it. Herpes is the one thing that they dont test for routinely, soooooo many people have it and dont know... Most likely casenario he has had it for a while and didnt have symptoms and you just got it from him now. It is possible, but very very rare for someone to have it for a long tome before getting their first outbreak.

Hi Sam another question, sorry for asking you so many things unfortunately my doctor is not that helpful to answer my queries, since I got postive for HSV2 would it be possible for me to passed this to others without having sexual contact? Like just through saliva or kissing, or sharing spoon or water glass like do I need to be careful in kissing the babies as well?
