imageI felt tingling 3 days before this appeared, itching for 2 weeks, the sore în the labia appeared on 17.02 i didnt see the small ones, tested for Igg Hsv 1/2 on 19.02 and Igm 1/2 and igg was positive igm negative. Then tested în 21.02 for Igg Hsv 2 and came negative. I read that igg can show an active hsv if îs positive so i have Hsv 1 genitally? I have problema with candida, vaginal infection. The sore în the labia didnt ulcerate or sting when i peed neither the small ones and it only hurt for 3 days when i touched the big sore. Went yestarday ți the doctor and said îs to late to diagnose, but gave me aclovir cream to use for 3 months and pills for 1 month and thats all.. imageimage

    Hi Ella,

I did 1000's of hours research into HSV almost 20 years ago as I was looking for a diagnosis for my own problem and unfortunatey I am reaching back into the internet looking for answers again, so hopefully I can answer your question from some point of education, whilst I still try to find answers myself.

I am not sure how old you are, but if I remember correctly it was estimated that around 70-80% of people by the time they reach 40 years of age will test positive for HSV1. Most of those infections being acquired in childhood. So that means in adult life getting a blood test that says you are HSV1 positive is really of little help, especially if you know you have had cold sores on your facial lips in the past. Even if you have never had a facial cold sore there is a possibility that you have HSV1 antibodies from being exposed to the virus, you just never developed the cold sore as your immune system is good.

That leaves people looking for answers to a positive HSV1 blood test in a position where the blood test does not really help in a diagnosis.

You mention IgM tests, pretty much everything I have ever read says these test have no value. So I would ignore any tests results from an IgM test.

Secondly your body needs time to produce anti-bodies to a viral infection. The time scale is 3 to 4 months. Your post implies you have taken the blood test a few days after noticing the problem.

If I read your post correctly you have tested for HSV I- IgG a few days after you noticed your problem, I would say you have Oral HSV I, even if you have never had a facial cold sore.

If your spot goes away, and never re-appears, but you feel you still needs answers consider a HSV II- IgG blood test in 4 months or longer.

3 months ago i was treated for HPv and after a few days this breakout appeared but i thought îs from Condyline but it wasnt sores just a big dry wound on my labia. So chaces are 50/50 i guess a should wait for another breakout and do the swab test.

If I were you, I would do two things.

      1. If it re-appears get it swabbed and make sure the clinic do a PCR test on the swab and...
      2. Take a HSV II -IgG blood test in about 4 months.

If all those are negative it is probably a safe bet to say it is not HSV..

If it does not re-appear and you still want some peace of mind do the blood test only in 4 months.

      Good luck

What I learnt from my experience, was that herpes was not really understood fully in how it presents itself, with many doctors having been taught that herpes present in a certain way and if that presentation is not there it can't be herpes.

I had many doctors 20 years ago saying that if you don't have blisters its can't be herpes. I think now it is widely recognised herpes doesn't have to cause blisters (in the first episode)

My point here is that just because you have a symptom that is not present, ie burning when peeing, doesn't mean it can't be HSV.

Swabbing (multiple times) combined with multiple blood tests (all returning negative) is in my opinion the only way you will establish that you DO NOT have genital HSV.

But if if never re-appears, you can just forget about it and move on.
