What are the symptoms of genital HSV1 breakouts, after the initial severe breakout?

The same as for HSV-2, only less frequently (maybe just once a year). Prodrome signs, if applicable, and recurrence symptoms are identical. Main difference in that respect is frequency and ease of transmission (HSV-2 worse on both counts).

Could be. Recurrences tend to be milder than the first outbreak, so can present as just a single sore or similar. Itching (more than tingling or nerve pain, imo) is common. But the odd bump and itching can also be other common things, so it's not always as clear cut with recurrences. Makes it rather frustrating!

Ugh. This all makes sense now. A week ago, I had swollen glands in my neck, with white spots. I was sure it was strep throat. Called my pcp for an antibiotic. Started my period a few days ago and now have itching and some bumps.

      Thanks

It could be a recurrence, possibly triggered from being ill and then your period, or it could just be some bumps with a bit of itch. Recurrences can be confusing that way, but if the bumps aren't something you've had before, and especially if any of them turn sore, then I suppose it would seem more likely a recurrence.

I just recovered from a definite recurrence involving a single, nasty ulcer (bad cold triggered it and made it worse), but I also have a small painless bump/pimple which I don't think is related, as it stayed the same, so you can even have both at the same time!
