HSV1 Igg Possitive at one lab and Negative at another Lab?

Ok so here's my huge mistake story, I got a hand job from a stripper and about 1 minute of unprotected oral sex 4 weeks ago. She used a lotion and the whole thing probably lasted about 4 minutes I think, I was drunk and I barely remember the night at all. The next day I had pain at the tip of my penis and some slight burning after urination (not durring). The irritation of my penis tip continued for 3 weeks and has subsided mostly and the slight burning is gone mostly. I still have this feeling of rawness on the sides of my penis shaft but it comes and goes.

At 3 days after I did a urine screen for gonorrhea and Chlamydia and sent it to the lab and started 1g of Azithromycin and 10 days of Doxycycline just in case. I saw my Urologist and he said he didn't think anything looked like Herpes and that I would not have had symptoms of anything next day so it was probably friction or a bacteria. At 2 weeks I did a full STD panel at (Lab 1) including HSV1 &2 Igg and came back negative for everything. I know it was too early but I needed to test for piece of mind.

So at 4 weeks I saw my Urologist again and he said none of my symptoms seemed to point to Herpes. Well I repeated the blood tests and this time sent two different samples from the same draw to Lab 1 and to Lab Corp. Lab 1 came back HSV1 Igg Negative .51 and HSV2 Igg Negative. But Lab Corp came back HSV1 Igg 2.35 Positive and HSV2 Igg Non Reactive? They also did a IGM1&2 and it came back positive at 1.6. I also had Lab 1 send their sample to Lab Corp to retest the Igg and it came back Slightly Positive? Lab 1 said that maybe their test just isn't as sensitive as Lab Corp's after the results came back positive again from their sample. So much for thinking I would be the lucky one who was low risk.

I don't know why I have been having this on and off feelings of rawness on the shaft of my penis just below the head. And I have also had this feeling that there is something in my urethra about 3/4 of an inch in. The area around my pee hole was purple for 3 weeks and sensitive to rubbing on my underwear or what ever touched it? I have also had tingling in my toes for several weeks now, is this nerve pain from the virus taking hold?

I guess I am still holding out hope that Lab Corp results are wrong and Lab 1's results were correct. They ran the sample twice and said they calibrate their machines every morning. At first they told me that Lab Corp's result was low and shouldn't be considered positive unless over 3.5 but from what I read that only applies to HSV2 Igg.

I'm hoping that other people in here may have had a similar experience with a positive that retested negative at a later date or am I pretty much wishful thinking here. I have had no sores as of yet or anything that my doctor would consider that looks like herpes.

Thanks for any responses I'm really lost right now and this is all I can think about.

    Alex,

Have you had any blisters? Sores? Fever? The tingling is a symptom of GH but doesn't always mean you have the virus.

I would call your doctor, he could do a swab if you have a open sore. If not, I would ask to repeat the blood test.

No blisters or sores, just some pain and slight burning after urination in my urethra that comes and goes. Doc said I have prostatitis and gave me antibiotic that doesn't seem to be working. My sciatic nerve has been sore for the past 3 weeks and it may just be radiating down to my toes but not sure. Everything seems like a symptom right now. I haven't had any of the classic signs yet and it's been over 5 weeks now.

Doesn't sound like GH to me, but I'm not a doctor. Your best bet is to redo your blood work.

The IgG test is less accurate for HSV1 (misses one in four cases, apparently) and IgM is useless, so ignore the latter results entirely. Different labs may use different test kits, different machines, so I wouldn't worry too much. Besides, the blood test doesn't tell you where you're infected, so even if you are positive, it could be asymptomatic oral. A primary infection of genital HSV1 would normally be much worse than a bit of discomfort after urination, which in turn can be caused by a wide number of things. There is no reason to single out herpes without any other symptoms.

Got a HSV1 igg test back from Quest at 8 weeks 1.5. Number is lower than I expected. I thought the number would be going up? The lab said that it is because I have not had a recent OB? Shouldn't the number be increasing over time to at least over 5? I didn't think antiboidies decrease over time. And Lab 1 also came back Negative again @ 0.5?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

Interesting, but I would take that to mean you're more likely negative than positive. First, you haven't had an outbreak. Second, one lab says you're negative. Third, the other lab that says you're positive shows declining IgG values, which for a new infection at 8 weeks is not what you'd expect, like you said. Since HSV1 is so common anyway, even if you did somehow have it, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. You can test again at 12 weeks, and if there's still no change or a further decline, I would count that as negative. IgG values don't decline so quickly after new infection, recent outbreak or not.
