Hi i recently tested for hsv1 -and hsv2 and was positive for hsv1 and negative for hsv2. However im not sure where i got this from. I dont remember getting any sores on my mouth or even down there. Sometimes i get vaginal irritation or itchy there before my period but it usually goes away after my period. i get worried that its hsv1 genital but like i said ive never had an outbreak down there. I am 21 years old and my range for hsv1 was 55.00 does that mean it was most likely contracted as a kid? or recently? Im kind of ashamed that i have this though ive never had an outbreak.

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about it. I got a cold sore when i was like 7 and they told us it was HSV-1. I haven't had a cold sore in like over a decade. But I am currently dealing with a genital outbreak because my partner had a cold sore on his lip while we were intimate. But I've read that genital outbreaks of HSV-1 don't usually reoccur often or sometimes ever. Literally like most people have HSV-1 and aren't even aware of it. I didn't even know until I was a teenager and found some old medical records from when I was a kid. I saw herpes and freaked out and asked my mom and she just told me to chill I just had a cold sore and that its common. So I really wouldn't worry about it much if I were you, especially if you have no symptoms such as bumps/blisters/ulcers down there. It normal to experience itching or irrational. Again, its super common and its nothing to be ashamed about. I'm sure this statistic isn't completely accurate but ive read that some like 90% of the population has HSV-1.

Sadly there are no current test to know where you are infected and since you haven't had an outbreak anywhere I would not worry about it, honestly it is most likely on your lips. The best thing you can do is just try and be careful when your boyfriend is having an outbreak and you as well if you ever do have one.
