HSV2 Blood Test

I have read some information on the internet regarding the blood testing used to diagnose HSV 2. Is there a type of "waiting period" where one may not have a positive reuslt for 3-4 months, or can the blood test detect a new HSV infection? Just trying to pinpoint how I got in this preidcament. Either from my boyfriend from almost a year ago, or from my new boyfriend of twoish months. I was diagnosed by the blood test two days ago, but have had a curious little bump almost every month since my ex. I'm curious now because I feel like it's never been quite this bad. I've also just started to experience flu-like symptoms. I don't know if this is a new infection or If I've had it a while and truly do have the flu. On another note, stress levels are through the roof. Waiting on an HIV and all other STD's test to come back. I could believe I had HSV so now I'm extremely paranoid about what else I could have and not know. How do you guys deal with the stress of it all?

Which blood test did you have done, IgG or IgM, and what was your index value? The best way to deal with the stress and worry is to test for everything. Lol, that's what I did, too. Paranoid about what else I might have acquired. Fortunately, everything came back negative thus far except the herpes.

I haven't the slightest clue. The only thing I saw on my lab sheet was 'PFM'. I'm beyond anxious for my test results. Lord knows I haven't taken this diagnoses well at all. I can only imagine how devastated I would be if I can back positive for HIV.

You need to find out more details to better understand your results, I'm afraid. Can you ask for a copy of the lab report?

I'm sure I can. I'll be sure to ask some questions regarding my HSV test when my doctor calls me about my new test results. This may be a dumb question, but would a low index value mean that my HSV is less severe?

No. Could mean a very recent infection or be a false positive if you also carry HSV-1, unless you were also confirmed positive by swab. The index value has no bearing on severity.

Have you already been diagnosed and this is a follow-up test? If so, how were you diagnosed initially?

The same here.only one which we cant never get rid of.

I got tested as soon as i got the bumps so i tested a false negative, which my doctor told would take 3-4 months to get the actual result

And that's one way to tell if you have a new infection. Test immediately during an outbreak, then after the window period. If negative, then later positive, it was newly acquired at the time of the outbreak.

Testing soon after a first outbreak can also work (e.g., within a couple of weeks). A negative IgG and positive swab is another way to determine new infection.
