HSV2 Questions

I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions (even if it's just one out of the below) I have as I've been recently diagnosed.

  1. My first outbreak was extremely mild to the point where doctors said it wasn't herpes, does this mean I'm less contagious?
  2. The only outbreak I have now looks like pimples on my pubic bone area (I'll attach a pic), does this make it easier to transmit to a partner than if it was vaginal?
  3. Does the severe nerve pain I have indicate an oncoming outbreak or is it just a symptom as it feels constant at times?
  4. Is it just the skin area where I get lesions that's infectious or is it literally everywhere down there?
  5. Can I have a normal sex life without transmitting if I just avoid sex when I have an outbreak?

Sorry for all the questions! I would really appreciate if people can answer some of these, I feel like I'm so fixated on having it at the moment.

This is literally all I get with an outbreak so you can see I'm lucky in that sense

Hi Claire, I am no expert and could be completely wrong but that does not look like herpes to me. It looks more like Impetigo

how long did you wait to take a test after you symptoms started . i kinda have something similar its pimple like never a cluster and im worried

uh that does not look like herpes at all. Did your doctor already say you have it.

I initially had a herpes sore and tested positive via blood test. They said that it might be the case that I do not have typical symptoms as it can resemble a small pimple which I have also read before. They tingle and then go sore and then itch so I always assumed they were. It's sh*t becauss every sensation down there my paranoia puts it down to herpes.

    1. You're far far more contagious during an outbreak than between outbreaks. So to the extent that you have fewer, shorter outbreaks, yes you are less contagious. But don't have sex at all during an outbreak.
    2. I don't know. But its passed by skin on skin contact so you need to be very careful during an outbreak of any sort.
    3. I don't know but if it's constant I don't see how it can be the prodrome that some get
    4. It's just the lesions, but I would advise avoiding all sexual contact during an outbreak
    5. Yes. I have genital HSV2 and get mild outbreaks like yourself. I've not passed it on since my diagnosis despite having unprotected sex between outbreaks. I avoid all sex during outbreaks and am very vigilant though. The danger is having a mild outbreak that you don't even notice

Hope this helps. Best of luck to you Emily

Yeah the nerve pain is the worst! I'm just praying they bring out a cure one day. At least our symptoms are mild so our bodies our coping well. It's makes me think that every sensation I have is down to herpes.
