HSV2 Testing! IgM and IgG

Posted , 3 users are following.

Okay short and sweet......

The reason for IgM testing being unreliable haven't been strong enough for me to rule out my positive IgM result for HSV2.....definitely with my recent intercourse before the testing....

I'm in the box that tested too soon and should "ignore" ny IgM because my IgG is negative and get retested....it sucks because I actually strongly believe I have HSV2 or 1 after being negative all 24 years AND being tested negative before this encounter! And then to get a positive IgM out of nowhere just doesn't make sense......

How? Anyone gone through this? Going through it? Let's clear it up

If you just Google IgM vs IgG testing for herpes, you'll see enough legitimate results telling you to disregard IgM, including the US Center for Disease Control (CDC), so be happy that's the case and that you have no symptoms, and simply do the IgG test at 3 months. No reason to think you have something based on an unreliable test that isn't advised for herpes.

I definitely googled this out of my mind, read forum after forum, so many different answers about IgM on google...confusing...and it's not only the unreliable test, it's the history before the test that makes me assume it's reliable at this point...

      Thanks for response

If the CDC and leading HSV experts say don't use the IgM test because it's not useful and is unreliable, then that ought to be your answer.

Maybe you can help me...since most people have mild symptoms, would these be symptoms of HSV 2:

      throbbing/stabbing pain in the urethra

Everytime I sat down, very light heated/burn feel on shaft

Red area w/o bumps wherever I rub lightly

Itchy elbows, forearm, 4 red bumps popped up from itching and scabbed

From what I understand, the CDC says that the IgM test is unreliable, so I would disregard it, wait 4-6 weeks, then retest for the IgG.

Why do you believe that you have it?

Yeah that's the confusing part...I believe I have it because the risk I took and the IgM result, it just reads as something is there, therefore, I'm infected... I don't understand the concept of IgM meaning nothing...from the expert handsfield, he says the result being false, comes from the the physical test being faulty, having issues rather than cross reactivity...and my results are weird

The IgM test is unreliable, end of, so forget the results and do the proper IgG test at 3+ months. There's no point trying to convince yourself that you have herpes when your test results are from an unreliable test and your symptoms negligible (some not even relevant to genital herpes, like arm bumps).
