Huge fear of developing fatal allergic reactions

Hi,

The past few months I've had a lot of anxiety around food. I already have felt anxious around new food for years, I am very scared of textures and weird feelings (like spicy stuff) in my mouth so I am very limited to the few foods that I feel comfortable with at the moment, but recently I've started to feel scared around the food I already am able to eat. I feel so scared that I'm going to suddenly develop an allergy and die.

Like when I went to eat some peanuts today, I suddenly thought about how I'm going to have a severe allergic reaction and die because nobody is around, so now I'm waiting for my parents to come home so that they are able to call the hospital if I eat them and have a severe reaction. It feels so silly to type out but it's becoming a huge problem in my life. It started when I was 16 (I am 18 now) after I suddenly developed a very mild allergy to fruit which has since gone away, but the anxiety has suddenly got extremely bad.

What am I supposed to do?

sorry you are going through this fear. It sounds like you are over thinking this. if you had a peanut allergy that would’ve been most likely been discovered when you were a child or a little older because I’m sure you have probably had peanut in some form through your life.

. I get that with fresh fruit sometimes and I get a scratchy throat but nothing more than that.

severe allergic reactions are almost always caused by the same few groups of food. it was determined that they account for about 90% of all allergic reactions to food.

those would be tree nuts, peanuts, fin fish, , milk, shellfish, eggs, soy, wheat.

i would imagine that you have eaten some of these at some point in your life without having a reaction. try to relax and take it one step at a time. Take care
