Humira and Balloon Sinuplasty

Hi, I am new to this group but have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for 10 years and have been taking Humira for about 9 years.  I have had numerous sinus infections this past year and antibiotics are becoming less affective and I cannot take steroids.  I am scheduled to have a Balloon Sinuplasty in two weeks, I took my Humira shot this week but now I am wondering if I should reschedule the procedure to allow time for the Humira to get out of my system.  Has anyone else had this done while on Humira and did you stop the medication?   Thanks!

    Hi Janis.

I have been on humira and I know one of the big warnings is when you have any infection you must stop taking the biologic as it totally nullifies the antibiotic.

It can take a month or so to get out of your system.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck

Thanks, Brian!  I do not have an infection at the present time and the procedure is not invasive that is was why I was wondering if I could go ahead with it, I can't seem to find anyone who knows.

I would say if it's non evasive and no risk of secondary infections as a

Result of the procedure you will be fine. That's the issue you need to

    Establish.

The ENT nurse said there was no problem with taking the Humira. The rheumatologist said not to take it 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after so I thought I would see what other people have done.  I probably should reschedule the procedure since I talked to the rheumatologist after I had scheduled the procedure.  Other doctors  should not try to tell you what to do because they don't really understand the biologics.  I should have told them I would talk to my rheumatologist before scheduling but I was so happy that there was something that could be done and wanted it to happen fast.  I will probably have another sinus infection by then!  Humira works wonderful for me, I just hope it keeps working.  I certainly hope you can find something that works for you and hoping there is no damage.  Thanks for your answer.
