Hi

I've been on methotrexate for over 4 years and now my fantastic rheumatologist is applying for me to start humira injection bi weekly. I've had blood test and chest xray re tb and guessing I'll start in 4 weeks.

I'm cool with learning to inject myself and home care UK come teach me Anyhow. I'm used to blood tests and am a positive person although very inactive at the moment so I'm hoping for more energy and less pain. I'm on 25mg mtx 3g of sulfazaline as well as a few others including etoricoxib inflam pill. I have PsA and I guess my rheumy is trying to head rheumy arthritis away.

I'd love your thoughts on the humira and pricking myself!

Thanks. I'm 45 BTW.

Happy Easter xx

I love it! It transformed my life, gave me energy & allowed me to live again. It was ophthalmology who prescribed it for an eye problem but the rheumatologist a were happy with that. The combo with MTX just changed my world. I'm due to stop it next month and am terrified I'm going to return to being a lump again. The injecting is easy - I prefered the syringe to the pen but the pen is a very simple method. My only issue was having to stay out of the sunlight & the lack of research into the effects of sunlight after stopping it.

Ali, I am getting confused on this post who is talking about what meds... are you talking about Humira changing your life???!!!  I start Humira tomorrow.  I have had a number of people (one of them my own doctor) say Humira can make you forget you have the disease.  Of course, I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I'm hopeful THAT is the medication you are referencing??  Warmest, Kim

      Hi Ali,

Could you tell me what the ophthalmologic problem you mentioned you had that brought you to humira in the first place ?

I am curious because alongside my RA I have a serious case of dye-eye plus blepharitis and keratitis.... all taking a toll on my daily life – not so much my vision but the lack of tearing produces sometimes severe burning, itching, gritty feeling...sometimes so bad I can't keep my eyes open at all.

Anything close to what you had that was cured by humira?

Yes humira changed my life, I think the combination with mtx was really what made it special for me. Best of luck with it!

I had scleritis which was unresponsive to Dmards/immunosuppressants & had been on high doses of prednisolone for quite a few years to keep it under control.

Hi - been taking Humira for a couple of years now. The pain of the injection can be reduced to nearly nil.

1 Warn the epipen to BLOOD HEAT, not room temperature. I put mine down my bra for 45 minutes.

2 Inject in the leg. Its less sensitive than the stomach.

3 Warm the injection site. I use a wheat pack for about 5 minutes before I do the injection.

These three things reduce the pain down to blood test level. Plus you don't upset the neighbours with all the screaming.......
