Rest is important and doing bed exercises as tolerated. Ice and meds stay ahead of the pain ...as this is early in the healing process. Usually after two -3 weeks he will see daily progression.

this is a important time for bone to grow and secure the implant to the bone.

    this will pass soon!

    Sending healing blessing your way!

Elevate and ice periodically during the day. Important to not overdo the walking and exercises but do need to move. My doctor told me in the beginning to take a short walks a few times a day.

There will be swelling joan and slight groin pain, pain around the scar area with the healing. I did not out for the first week, just walked around the house and done the exercises I was given. To be honest I think I was a littke scared to do too much and felt a bit down.

Yes, I agree with everyone - Ice, elevate, even a bit of massage.

Take it easy, his body is healing, and it takes time.

My own recovery took a step backward last night, with upper thigh pains, but having been through it twice before, I was ready for the 'backward step' and just went back to using one stick again and rested today.

Hi, I started getting groin pain about 4 weeks after my hip replacement, completely panicked thinking something was wrong. Saw my surgeon and he said it was normal to feel groin pain and not to worry. His actual words were 'you do know what I have done to you'! Said the body has alot of healing to do now.

It lasted a few weeks then went. I'm at week 8 now and feel great x

Hi, had my THR done August 14th,and I used a walker for the first 12 days. I found that with the walker it helped me walk more normal, then with the crutches. So,never did use the crutches, and on day 13,started using a cane. For the first two weeks,I elevated my leg four times a day,and iced when needed. No longer need the ice,but still elevate twice a day,and still do the ankle pumps. I was able to put full weight on the surgical leg from day one, so I think that helped with recovery.

You are so lucky you had such a quick recovery. I could not put full weight on my operated leg until at least week 10. At 20 weeks I still have some way to go with my thr recovery. I think we all wished our recovery could be as quick.
